You still got halve a life left which is a long time. I would do it for the nice looking teeth after and the experience. However I would also consider the practicalities. Braces are expensive. What would you otherwise do with the money? Decide what makes you the happiest.

I went to see my local dentist to get my teeth cleaned about a month ago and I said I wasn't happy with my smile. He recommended I see an orthodontist to get an opinion. She recommends that I get braces and I wouldn't be a candidate for invisalign. She also said I would need a herbst appliance and elastics at some point during my two to two and a half year sentence.

Would it be worth it to get braces at this point in my life? What would you guys do if you were me? If it helps, I'm also in the dating pool.  ;D

With my activator and the changes I had made, it is very difficult to breathe through the mouth.

I tried to plug my nose and just use my mouth. The air that passes is very little.

Speaking is impossible due to the extension of plaque to the lower teeth.

There are no openings on the front, the plate is completely closed.

You can't close your lips completely, because the pelottes move them out and take up space.

I also inserted the headgear using the cervical band and the highpull band at the same time.

I hooked the two bands to position number 6.

With this type of device it is impossible to eat and it is impossible to drink.

There is a lot of saliva and when you remove it, a lot of drool comes out of your mouth.

If you keep it snugly between your upper and lower teeth, you can't move your mouth up and down.

You can move your lips and tongue.

I had the pearl put on the inside of the device.
When you move your tongue you feel the pearl moving.
The pearl is not fixed, it has some movement and rotates.

One thing I am very happy with was the possibility to add the image of the soccer ball on the plaque.

It's nice to be able to customize the appliance.

One thing that I think would be worth trying: Put on this device, have your mouth gagged with the gray tesaband tape, have your hands tied behind your back and have your eyes blindfolded. Try to stay like this for about an hour and see how long you resist.
Maybe even get tickled in these conditions.

What do you think about this my crazy idea?

That certainly looks good and quite extreme.
Can you breathe through your mouth at all?
I can certainly see why speaking would be impossible.

I am never quite sure if my largest appliance would be called an activator (see my avatar pic), its generally simpler, more like a top and bottom Hawley joined together. But the main difference is that it has a breathing slot at the front so I can speak reasonably well and also drink but eating is impossible of course.

The activator has arrived, the other device not yet.

I wore the activator and I can tell you my experience:

It is impossible to speak because both the upper and lower teeth are blocked.
The appliance is a single block.

Its presence is very evident in the mouth.

There is the extension of the plaque up to the lower teeth.

The upper plate covers the entire palate.

The pelottes are cluttered and you feel them between the gum and the outside of the mouth.

The lips are more prominent.

You always feel the pearl in front of the tongue.

The device produces a lot of saliva.
You have a bit of pain in your mouth and teeth at first because you feel the pressure of the upper and lower arches and you also feel the pressure of the pelottess.

The feeling you have is that you feel imprisoned and you are afraid of not being able to remove the appliance.

I have yet to try it with the headgear.
I'll let you know what it feels like.

In any case, I also recommend you to order this type of device with my modifications I'm sure you will like it.

Wow, your lower arch is really shifted. Perhaps you will end up in real braces like me  ;D
I think it’s slightly the angle but also I was worried the bottom impression was too tight but they said it was fine so we will have to see when I get them if they fit or not! If not back to fixed braces like you say

My AV didn't like the site to start with, then it says there's a virus in this file....

I just had an email saying my twin blocks and headgear are now made and will be sent to me! They also sent a picture of the braces and I have to say I am really surprised by the quality of them. They have really done a great job. I now can’t wait for them to get here! Prob be another couple of weeks :'( . I’ll try and figure out how to link in a photo of them. If someone has an idiot guide to how to do it please let me know
