Thanks for your feedback. Ofcourse I meant OrthoDONTist :) I'll check what my dentist will say. I don't know yet how to explain to my dentist. I only hope my dentist will not notice I really want braces.

I REALLY hope you actually get referred to an orthodontist, and not an orthopedist.... orthopedists DO do braces, just not for your mouth!

In most countries, you can go visit a private orthodontist WITHOUT needing to be referred by your dentist

Not sure where you are from but here if you pay for it you can get an orthodontic consultation if you want one. It will be up to the orthodontist to advise you on what options are available for your issues. I always wanted removable braces but my treatment as an adult never allowed for it so I had fixed braces then Hawley retainers. If your ortho thinks braces are necessary they will advise. Good luck with it. As for what friend and colleagues think just tell them you are fixing your smile and they won’t care

Hi everyone,

Next week I have my yearly visit to the dentist. I would like to ask her if I should start wearing braces even though I'm +35. I think I can convince her to make an appointment with and orthopedist because my lower teeth are a little bit "out of tune" and one of my front teeth at the top was shifted in time. For some reason I really want to start a full treatment with braces both top and bottom teeth. I have some kind of love/hate relation with braces. I don't like / hate the look of it and I think they give you a "dirty teeth"-look. But for some reason, I cannot explain, I really want to get braces. Preferably with metal brackets.

The reason why I'm telling you this: I will have to convince my environment (family / friends / colleagues at work). I'm afraid of their reaction. They will not understand I started the braces treatment. Any suggestions how I should explain to my environment? Also I will feel ashamed to start wearing the braces. I'm a little but shy person. How to handle this?

Also I will have to convince my dentist to give me an appointment with an orthopedist. Any suggestions how to make this happen?

Thanks for your help/information/support.

In the past I have had several braces for 10 years.
I started with mobile braces.
Then I switched to fixed gear.
In the last period of the treatments, together with the fixed braces, I was wearing a very annoying acrylic plate under the palate that was used to move some teeth. I have been carrying the plaque on the palate for more than a year.
It was very uncomfortable to talk, you could not take it off and very often part of the food you ate accumulated.
The 10-year treatment helped because I had all 32 teeth, they were large and started to get crooked as there was no space.
During the treatment I removed two canine teeth at the top to create space, then I removed a lower molar tooth that was crooked and impossible to straighten.
I also removed the upper molar corresponding to the lower one that I had removed.
I also risked that my wisdom teeth came out, luckily it didn't happen.
The treatment ended in 2010 and I started it in the 2000s.

After the treatment I did not need orthodontic braces for restraint.
After the treatment, the teeth are perfectly straight.

The devices I had during the treatment I have all thrown away over time.

The devices that I showed in the photo, I got them all from the shop, except the 3 that can be seen in a photo.
They are all working devices and are fit for my mouth.
When I ordered them, I took my mouth prints.
I wear them every now and then.
I also use the headgear.
This time, however, I do not use them for a real treatment but only to try something in the mouth.

That is a great collection. Are they all fake braces or are any from actual orthodontic treatment?

If they had increased the acrylic coverage of your palate, they could probably have squeezed in a second expansion screw as well'- which again would have required fairly thick acrylic. It still seems odd to me that they have installed expansion screws top and bottom but are not using them.

From an orthodontic perspective, your case would be managed much more easily with fixed braces, so kudos to your ortho for accepting your demand for removables. I can't imagine there has ever been a more complex set of removable braces. very impressive.

Don't worry about the IPR. It is not at all painful and the amount of enamel removed is minimal and should not impact on the health of your teeth. My orthodontist told me her invisalign practice was reliant on IPR; should could not have done most of her invisalign cases without it.

What about the current situation in your mouth?
Can you give us an update and probably and new pictures?

Just found this poll - it's interesting to see all the colours listed like this and I think if I were having to choose it might be quite difficult as the range is overwhelming. If it's about seeing them on others then solid strong colours are best - I like them to be noticeable, and why not celebrate your treatment with a bright eye catching colour?

Hello again,

heute war mein 4. Kontrolltermin.

Joe

Thank you guys so much for responding. I made another appointment for a consultation with an orthodontist that's about 35 miles away from me. I just want another opinion before I start my braces journey.
