This is the orthodontic device for you: https://www.bracesshop.com/en/functional-appliances/38/activator-with-tongue-crib-and-pelottes?c=60
You can find the photos of my version here: https://noreferrer.me/?https://shorturl.at/ikOY0

The device is: Modified Activator With Pelottes

I did make the following changes:
- The upper part of the palate completely closed and thick.
- The lower extension part closed on the front.
- Protective tubes put on the upper and lower arch wire.
- Pads and tubes colored orange.
- Device colored blue and orange.
- Add design of the soccer ball to the upper part of the palate.

This is my very similar and bulky orthodontic device like the one you showed in the photo.

I wore the activator and I can tell you my experience:

It is impossible to speak because both the upper and lower teeth are blocked.
The appliance is a single block.

Its presence is very evident in the mouth.

There is the extension of the plaque up to the lower teeth.

The upper plate covers the entire palate.

The pelottes are cluttered and you feel them between the gum and the outside of the mouth.

The lips are more prominent.

You always feel the pearl in front of the tongue.

The device produces a lot of saliva.
You have a bit of pain in your mouth and teeth at first because you feel the pressure of the upper and lower arches and you also feel the pressure of the pelottess.

The feeling you have is that you feel imprisoned and you are afraid of not being able to remove the appliance.

I have yet to try it with the headgear.
I'll let you know what it feels like.

In any case, I also recommend you to order this type of device with my modifications I'm sure you will like it.

Howdy!  I've been a long-time admirer of braces, both oral and other medical, with a big interest in hidden public bondage.  I'm looking to find a dental appliance that severely limits speaking and pretty much any intelligible use of the tongue.  I've looked at the braces-shop site many times but I'm really not sure what would be the best option(s) for such a device. Would anyone have some advice,or even better pictures or illustrations of something that would accomplish this?

I think this brace is called a Fränkel and it exists in different versions.

When you want to have it produced thicker you simply demand this when you order it.

On Sunday after writing the last post, three different things happened: First, while eating, a piece of the glue holding the fixed retainer broke off. When brushing after the meal, the wire through my two brackets broke in the middle and fell out. And when flossing, the floss went a bit behind the permanent retainer on a different tooth. Three completely different things occurred unrelated to each other within a few hours. Great.

Luckily my next scheduled appointment was only two days later. I called ahead to let them know. At the beginning of the appointment they fixed all of the above issues by adding glue to both teeth of the fixed retainer (without removing the previous glue as the retainer was not fully lose). A new wire was placed through the brackets without the previously bent step being added to the new wire. Due to that, there was quite some pressure on the wisdom tooth and second molar for a few days.
The removable brace was slightly modified. The ortho applied downwards pressure on my wisdom teeth to push them down and close the vertical gap on both sides.

And with that I scheduled a new appointment for two weeks from now. As something came up I needed to reschedule the appointment. However, the weeks after, they are on holiday and the weeks before they don't have any free slot. But they did just have a cancellation for tomorrow, so my appointment moved forwards by nearly two weeks.

With the current treatment I got bite turbo’s, which were super annoying during the first few months and made me almost regret that I got braces again.

Hallo!

It’s definitely worth it. I’m going through treatment and am older than you. It’s not for your appearance as much as it is for your long term health and definitely worth it.

So, after an initial consult with my orthodontist I embarked on what was supposed to be a 6 month long Invisalign journey. After initiating treatment, it was discovered I was allergic to Invisalign and had metal braces applied instead, being told treatment would still be 6 months. I had my metal braces (for the 3rd time) for 7 months,  but wasn’t having the issues like tongue thrust and my back teeth not all touching when I would bite down being addressed by my orthodontist to the point that he had scheduled to have my teeth de-banded at my next appointment. I was also developing TMJ pain that was completely disregarded, and was diagnosed with sleep apnea during this time. I ended up going to the maxillo-facial dentist/surgeon who removed my daughter’s wisdom teeth for help.
The first visit was amazing! He was able to determine that I had 2 different bites-one being forward that didn’t cause pain, and one being further back where the orthodontist wanted my bite even though my teeth didn’t touch and the inordinate amount of pain it was causing. My MF doc went so far as to call my orthodontist to consult with him to get my issues addressed. I went to my next orthodontist appointment and pointed out all the misalignment I still had, and he made some minor cosmetic adjustments, but wasn’t willing to address the elephant in my mouth. When I went to my next MF appointment, my doc told me he spoke with my orthodontist, and relayed that my ortho had no interest in fixing my problem. He recommended looking for a new orthodontist before my current treatment was complete so I would not have to go through the de-banding and bonding process again.
It took several months trying to find an orthodontist willing to accept a transfer patient within my valley. With the assistance of my MF doc consulting with the 2 out of 4 orthos willing to take my case, I found the right one.
12-14 months was added to my treatment time. My first appointment was scheduled to add brackets to the 6 molars that didn’t have them, and reposition some of the existing brackets. I sat in the dental chair with the technician. She removed my wires and was really concerned. The orthodontist came over to confer with the tech who showed her the wires that had been removed. The orthodontist examined my teeth, realizing that there were many brackets that had to be repositioned. As she was counting, she got to the 18th bracket and stopped. She looked at me and said, I’m sorry to do this, but we need to remove your braces and start over. There are just so many brackets that are misaligned on your teeth that it’s not worth repositioning them one at at time. Instead she decided to have the new brackets put on using indirect bonding trays, but it would take time for them to be made. 2 weeks later I was back in the chair having braces put on my teeth for the 4th time.
It’s been just over a month, and already I notice my back teeth leveling into a closer bite. I may need to undergo splint therapy to ease my TMJ and identify where my exact bite is for the best outcome. I’m also considering surgery once my orthodontic treatment is coming to an end for my sleep apnea. I’ve been miserable using a CPAP, and have a difficult time figuring out what to do when I go camping for any length of time. I admit that I have enjoyed having braces all this time. I’m in no hurry to have them removed, but want to also have the benefit of them fixing the problems I’m having.
On a side note, I recently found out my first orthodontist submitted to my insurance company that I would be receiving treatment for a full year while telling me 6 months. I’m angry to say the least, as his greed is costing me more money out of pocket, but I’m not sure if or how to pursue doing anything about it.
Thanks for taking an interest in my journey. I’ll keep you posted as to what transpires.

A few things from this past week:

I went in on Wednesday for the sensitivity. The ortho looked at it and thinks it’s just the nerve of the tooth being hypersensitive from the new force on the tooth. He didn’t think there was gum recession compared to a previous photo of my teeth (but that photo was taken the day I got the lower braces on, and I first felt the sensitivity that evening), and he also said he didn’t think it was the root of the molar exposed. He said it should go back to normal, but I’m still feeling the same sensitivity so far.

I called my ortho’s office Friday morning because one of my upper incisors was very slightly coming in contact with one of the lower brackets when I bit down. I had been told at my consult that I’d probably get anterior bite turbos when I got my lower braces on, but then I didn’t get them. Since getting the lower braces on, I had been watching how close my upper teeth were too touching the lower brackets, and it seemed like they were getting closer and closer. When I called, they spoke to the ortho and said just to keep an eye on it and if it started touching harder they’d personally have me come in for the ortho to look at. By midday, the upper teeth were no longer touching the lower brackets. This has kind of repeated the past couple days (can barely touching for a little bit in the morning, but not the rest of the day. So I’m still hopeful that I’ll dodge having to get bite turbos. They also clipped some wire ends for me (which shows that my teeth has moved a little since getting those wires).

A few other things about the experience so far:

I’ve had to use wax in various spots most days, but usually not until the evening. I was expecting that to be worse (the wire ends getting clipped really helped).

Because my upper and lower incisors were also pretty straight relative to each other (upper because they were already braced, and lower because I had the permanent retainer), if I push on the archwire between those teeth, I can feel it move around in the bracket slots a little (wire is 0.014”, slot is 0.022” x 0.0275”). Feels weird bruise if I tap in the right spot, the wire feels loose in the brackets, whereas it feels really taut on either side of the out-of-line premolar.

That premolar hasn’t moved enough for me to notice, but I’ll have to compare in pictures to be sure.

Can we have pictures then? My issue with this is how do you have wired in headgear but no braces? It just doesn’t work like that.

Certainly for kids, it's quite common to have just a pair of molar bands along with headgear (and thus no other braces) for initial treatment
