I had my ortho apointment today and unfortunatley she wouldn't give me braces I was a bit sad but a friend of mine suggested I get some fake braces so that's what I've done, I've ordered some fake braces  they should be here in a few weeks obviously not as good as the real deal but I just think of the money ived saved and if I keep quiet about it and go out wearing my fakes everyone will think its the real deall I hope!

Im meeting my ortho for the first time in 2 Tuesdays time so I hope I can get to chat with her and get a bit of a patient-ortho relationship going I hope it will be the start of a long treatment plan

As someone who has had braces multiple times and am currently back in treatment, make sure you find an orthodontist who is hands on and actually takes the time to get to know you as more than just brackets and wires. Lot of orthodontists, at least here in the US, seem to be more about maximizing patients in chairs per day and making as much money as possible. My current orthodontist is the complete opposite and I much prefer the more personalized level of care compared to what feels akin to being moved like cattle through the system.

That bit of practical advice out of the way, good luck in finding and orthodontist and experiencing the thrill!

Good look also from my side. May your braces dreams come true, as they did for me, when I got my braces installed 15 months ago, at the age of 54 ????

I have been told that despite my major heart failure problems I now can have braces so I'm booked in to see an orthodontist the week after next I'm excited and nervous at the same time if I can finally get real braces it will be such a thrill I just wanted to put this on here wish me luck x

Absolutely get an orthodontic consultation. They are often free in some places but it is important to get a proper orthodontic opinion and get more than one so you can compare prices and options. Never too old for braces. Many teachers get braces, once you get them you will be fine. If you get a comment just shrug it off or ignore it or send them out of class! You are the teacher! Most people will be positive about it though.
It’s super important to get aligned teeth for your long term health as you can have more complications later down the line

My experience in short words. Don’t hesitate to consult orthodontists. Two or three to get different opinions.
I did the same one and a half year ago, with 54.
Don’t listen to your dentist, ask the specialists.
And don’t worry about, what others will think or say about you in braces.
In my case, only a few people mentioned my braces. And the only feedback I got was 100% positive.
Now, after almost 15 months in braces I can say, it was the best decision to get them. I hope I can keep my jewelry as long as possible.

As a kid, my parents were told I needed braces – several teeth are turned at angles in the rear, but you don’t see them. There’s a midline discrepancy as well as an overbite. I have found years later I have sleep apnea. I fought my parents tooth and nail and never showed up for any potential appointments or a consultation. My parents simply gave up, especially due to the cost. Now? My teeth are tipping in and I’m finding it difficult to avoid this anymore. (We are talking decades.) in my 20s I wound up with four rear molar crowns . At that time they told me you could not get braces. So, I have avoided this  for many more years-the only comfort I’m getting lately is wearing the occlusal night guard that I have for my top teeth most of the day. My speech is incredibly clear  and dictating on phone or tablet the dictation is better than when it’s out . It  is actually easier than when I have it out. I have even talked on the phone and no one asked me to repeat myself. I find that unusual. I think that may be because the occlusal night guard has a steep angle behind the top teeth, which goes up to my top palate.  It i seems to be beyondbeing the horseshoe palate that you see on the braces for a forum store. In front of my teeth, it covers the teeth and goes up close to a half inch above. It’s old/my bottom teeth no longer lineup with the indentation for them. That tells me the midline has shifted even more.

Unfortunately, the dentist that I had who made this and told me that I might possibly need orthodontics in the near future - I did not listen to him either and he is now deceased.( At that time I was embarrassed because I was teaching school. The first time it was because I was in school. The second time I refused because I was teaching school. I feared not being able to make myself clearly heard. Kids can be very cruell ) My current Dentist basically doesn’t believe in braces, not for adults anyway (especially older ones). Anybody have suggestions about finding an ortho just for a consultation? Especially when your dentist does not agree. Do you need to have your dentist on board with it because honestly, I’m not sure mine is. I asked him about a newer night splint two years ago and he said you don’t need it. The more I cannot speak properly because my tongue is spreading out  and I have the  splint out, it’s actually painful. The splint actually holds my teeth closer into my palate then it did when it was made I can feel it on my back teeth. The more I think I need to go see an ortho. I am too old to be proud about not going. I just want to avoid future problems.

I’ve had sleep apnea for years and never done anything about it because I’m terrified of masks. I have an overbite and midline issue. I also have an extremely hard upper night guard/a very tight and hardguard because I grind and have a bit of TMJ. It looks like yours.

What you were describing with the double occlusal guards and a herbst to expand your lower draw forward. Sounds like something that I would like to talk to my Dentist about. Have they lined up your midline and other teeth with this device I have seen them made, but I have never heard of anyone who has one.

I have also seen the totally correct guard that extend your mandible for sleep apnea, such as a twin block would push your band forward and I have seen prices up thousands of dollars

How is yours working?

My midline has always been off. I have a small overbite but teeth tip a bit in.  Have an old top jaw night guard and lately it feels great.. also lines up midline in mandibulat teeth groove. Does act a bit like a twin block pushing mandible forward.

What appliance from shop would be like this? I want top and bottom front lingual arch, twin block has top only

The first set of Hawleys retainers I got when I was 13, were not fitting so well. In top of that my Orthodontist did not ask for full time wear, and the lower one broke and has been poorly repaired by the Orthodontist. They were transparent, and got yellow. So not so nice first experience.
I got a new set done in Thailand. I was delivered Begg (Wrap-around) type, transparent pink, full palate acrylic and complex omega adjusting loops (common in Thailand). They were massive and I was a bit worried when I saw them on the tray. But they fitted perfectly and were very comfortable.
I got brackets again, later one, in Mexico. The retainers provided after a year of brackets, were not perfect. No omega loops, transparent acrylic (got yellow after few years), begg type but the upper starts from 1st molar only. Positive point, they feature thick acrylic behind incisors, that act as a kind of small tongue crib

https://www.bracesshop.com/category/fake-braces/

I lasted about nine months before being like screw it. My teeth haven’t shifted though, so it’s fine. I was recommended night time forever, but I didn’t do it.

Edit: it was six months. I has a six month checkup, then never put them on again after.
