Vielen Dank.

After my childhood treatment, in the 80s, I did not get any retainer.
Now again im fixed metal braces, im my mit 50s, I still hope, the brackets and wires will stay forever. At least for a couple of years.
But, whenever they will come off, I will opt for Hawleys for daytime and a Bionator for nighttime. One of them to be worn always, except for eating and brushing the teeth.
And, there will be an order to the shop, for a Modified Twinblock, with telescopic Herbst and Headgear. I had one of those for 10 years and was super happy with it.

A non-answer for me on this one, as I didn't actually progress to fixed braces to have the retainer. (But having just commented about views not matching replies, feel I ought to...)

But from talking to others, I suspect you'll get a range from everywhere between "about two days" to something closer to you!

My active treatment finished in July 2013. After being given a fixed  fixed retainer and a  hawley for 12/7 wear , I have worn my hawley pretty much every night since. My orthodontist advised indefinite night time wear of my hawley and I am currently on my third hawley. My bonded retainer finally failed last year and was removed by my general dentist and I have not replaced it

Hallo Alle,

Vielen Dank

The Braces Shop is offering a removable acrylic RPE. I think this is new and like the idea of having an RPE but isolated from the  acrylic- unlike the schwartz expander. However, I would like to add an anterior bite plane. Do you think that would be possible? Perhaps fixed onto wires coming from the main appliance?

Thanks for full reply.
That all makes a lot of sense.

My need is perhaps a little different in that, like many people on the forum I just wanted to see what retainers felt like and I had never really needed them. (Some people understand that, others dont).
Anyway I had some made, quite a few years ago and wore them almost all the time until I had to have a molar removed.
From then on, I was always conscious of the space which seemed even more noticeable when wearing the plate.
If I stopped wearing the plate I began to notice that I was also clenching in a way which makes my jaw joint (tmj) shift and click. Probably like you I know I am doing it but seem to be unable to control it.
I have realised now that when I wear the plate, the bite plate area stops me doing this, so I have decided its now time to get a new one made but with additional acrylic to fill the space where the molar should be.
I think your reasons for the full coverage would be mine also.

Thanks for sharing.

Retained

I chose full-palate coverage because I’ve gone through a lot of retainers over the years — I clench hard, I eventually destroy them, and I’ve learned exactly what drives me nuts. The worst ones for me were the “horseshoe-cut” uppers. I don’t know if it’s an ADHD thing or just personal sensitivity, but that open-palate design made me miserable. Every time I ordered new ones from my orthodontist, I told them the same thing: don’t cut the palate out.

I also wanted more posterior anchorage. On past sets, the rear of the retainer would flex upward when I clenched, and that sensation was unbearable. So when I ordered these, I told the shop to take the acrylic all the way back to the wisdom-tooth area for maximum stability.

My last set was heavily chewed up from my lower teeth hitting the upper acrylic, and getting new ones through my orthodontist would have cost twice as much. So I used this chance to fix every recurring problem:

Full palate (no horseshoe cut)

Extended posterior coverage for zero rocking

Stronger, thicker bite plate to keep me from chewing through it

The bite plate on this set is thicker than anything I’ve had before. It’s actually a good thing for durability, but it makes speech adaptation tougher. The extended palate was noticeable for a day or so, but I adjusted quickly.

Wear time: I wear them basically full-time except for eating, cleaning, and the occasional social situation if I remember to take them out. I have a severe clenching habit — I’ve cracked four molars that had to be crowned and chipped the enamel on two lower teeth — so I’ve worn retainers or a bite plate most of my adult life.

As for this specific set from the shop: the build quality is outstanding, easily the best I’ve ever had. None of the wires or clasps pinch, rub, or irritate anything, which honestly surprised me given how complex the design is. The bite plate is thicker than I’d normally want, but since that’s exactly what keeps me from destroying these, I’m probably leaving it alone. I’m sure the shop could thin it if I asked, but function comes first for me.

To fullbands69..
Thanks.
Out of interest, why did you choose to go for such full pallet coverage ?
From what you say this is more than you have had before.
Would you say that you now prefer this ?

How much of the time do you wear your retainers.?

Hello,

I seem to have had the exact same problem, and I'm in France.

Between ordering the product and receiving the email with the photo informing me that the product was ready, there were no issues. I received all the emails without any problems.

It was only the email with the tracking number that I didn't receive, but I contacted them directly and they provided it to me.

In any case, I'm not worried about it at all; I've been ordering for years and I've never had a problem with my purchases.

Hi,

did someone contacted the bracesshop and got answers from them?
I sent couply of messages via their contact form, but never got an answer (Also checked my junk folder in my email client)

Does anyone have a real email address of the bracesshop?

Wondering the link on top of this forum to bracesshop was deleted. Does bracesshop still exist?

Thanks

Hi,

we did receive your contact form inquiries and replied to both of them, but your email server rejected our messages each time with the error "Relay access denied". This means our replies could not be delivered, which is why they never reached your inbox.

We also tried contacting you from an alternative company email address, but that message was rejected as well.

If possible, could you please contact us using a different email address? This would allow us to respond to you normally. You can reach us at [email protected].

We will be happy to resend all information regarding your request as soon as we receive a message from you that can be delivered successfully.

Thank you!

They are my real retainers.  Ive worn retainers with a bite plate most of my adult life.
I clench day an night due to adhd so its either something like these or a splint.
I'll admit these are bigger than any of my past sets from the orthodontist and more than I bargained for but they are exactly what I ordered.  Adapting to the full pallet coverage was much easier than I thought  The thicker than previous sets bite plate is a different story and speech is a work in progress.

A word of advise.  The better your impressions the better the outcome.  I ended up ordering my own XL stainless steel impression trays and extra putty to make multiple attempts.  It was difficult to include the 3rd molars and pallet back that far in the impressions.

Good luck.

Hi fullbands69.

Just wondering if you can show a photo of the other side of your new top (upper) retainer to show the bite plate area.
I am about to order something similar.

Also it looks like the plate goes a long way back (very full coverage). Also what I am wanting.

Is yours just fun or is it a 'real' retainer ?

Yes I recently sent a question using the contact form about a future order.
I received a helpful reply and I hope to get an order in soon.

The link is still there - direct mail you'll find in the "privacy statement" at the end of the page.

Most children here still get metal brackets, so I don't think they are that rare.  I don't see adults in metal much.  I went to four different consultations before getting my braces and it was the same price for metal, ceramic or invisalign.  I chickened out and got ceramic, but after 1 month, I got colored bands because I want to see my braces.  If I were getting fakes, I think I would get metal.  We will see.  I have my braces for at least 10 more months and then I will probably get fakes for part time wear after that.
