My wife went with the ceramic fast braces 8 years back. After not wearing her retainer they shifter back. I’m currently trying to convince her to make another ortho appointment and go for metal

Ich hatte meine Behandlung mit 38 Jahren angefangen.Lose Spangen kamen für mich nie in Frage !
Die Aussprache ist eingeschränkt und wenn man die Spangen herausnehmen kann,dann tut man das auch !!
Somit dauert die Behandlung einfach nur länger.Bei Schienen ist die Aussprache und Optik zwar nahezu uneingeschränkt,aber alle
Fehlstellungen lassen sich nicht damit behandeln.Mein Arbeitskollege entschied sich für Schienen und dann musste er zahlreiche
Gummis einhängen für die " aufwendigeren " Zahnbewegungen.Dann wars mit der Unauffälligkeit der Schienen auch vorbei !
Außerdem hatte ich keine Lust wöchentlich immer wieder aufs neue den Weichmacher und andere Stoffe aus dem Kuststoff zu lutschen.

Meine Erfahrung : Oben Keramikbrackets unten Metall und es dauert 2 Stunden bis auf einer Geburtstagsparty deine Spange jemand bemerkt.

Zumindest haben die beiden, die ich aufgesucht habe, übereinstimmend das
Gleiche gesagt...
Und ich hatte extra zwei sehr Unterschiedliche augesucht.
"Alt eingesessen" und jung und modern....

ich denke ich würde an Deiner Stelle mal nach KFOs recherchieren, die einen Fokus auf lose Zahnspangen legen und mich dort noch einmal beraten lassen.

Meist sind die Kosten für feste Spangen weitaus höher, der Gewinn auch.
Eine Behandlung mit losen Zahnspangen mag etwas länger dauern, dafür weitaus weniger einschränkend, zumal nach einer festen Zahnspange sowieso eine lose Retainer Zahnspange getragen werden muss.
(bei Erwachsenen lebenslänglich und mindestens in der Nacht)

In welcher Stadt bist Du denn?

Hello everyone !
I'm new to the "community" but I'll probably have to to walk around with braces soon.
I had my first appointment with an orthodontist a few months ago. I was actually just thinking about braces
for night times or aligner and never thought of wearing fixed braces.
Unfortunately, the orthodontist told me that an adjustment is only possible with fixed braces.
I didn't want that, so I put the matter aside for now.
A few months later I got a second opinion from another orthodontist.
“Unfortunately” with the same result.
After thinking about it again for a few days,
I have now scheduled a diagnostic appointment in January.
Oh my God ! I'm curious.....

Ich bin noch neu in der "Community" aber so wie es aussieht, werde ich wohl auch demnächst mit einer Zahnspange rumlaufen dürfen.
Ich hatte bereits vor einigen Monaten einen ersten Termin bei einem KFO. Ich dachte eigentlich nur an eine Spange für Nachts und wäre
niemals auf die Idee gekommen, eine feste Zahnspange zu tragen. Als der KFO mit aber sagte, das die Behandlung mit Schienen oder
eine losen Zahnspange in meinem Fall wohl nicht möglich wäre, habe ich das Thema erst einmal zu den Akten gelegt.
Nun habe ich mir einige Monate später bei einer anderen Kieferorthopädin noch einmal eine zweite Meinung eingeholt.
"Leider" mit dem gleichen Ergebnis. Nach kurzer Ernüchterung und nachdem ich nun noch einmal einige Tage nachgedacht habe,
habe ich nun im Januar den Diagnostiktermin vereinbart. Oh Gott ! Da bin ich mal gespannt.....

I’ve had my eye on the retainer with brackets from the shop and I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to order these with clear, ceramic brackets, if this was at all possible?
I’m thinking about a few modifications like adding posterior bite plates covering the biting surface of the upper back teeth or removable lip bumpers and I’m quite confident these would be doable based on some of the posts on this board but I don’t think I’ve ever seen fakes with clear brackets.

If any of you who have the retainers with brackets, do you have any recommendations from your orders I should try to incorporate into mine?

Er kommt ganz gut zurecht, anfangs war es ein wenig gewöhnungsbedürftig aber mittlerweile überhaupt nicht mehr. Nächste Woche hat er einen Kontrolltermin. Das Powerscope scheint sich wohl ein wenig gelockert zu haben, er hatte anfangs mehr Druck drauf.

I’ve also had the U thing happen. I managed to get that back in as well with a whole lot less effort than reinserting it took.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, while eating some ice cream with brownie bits in it. The cold must have made the niti wire more flexible, and on that side for me it's a large span between the two molars.

I found some needle-nose pliers, swished around the cold water in my mouth, and then reinserted the wire myself. If it had been a less flexible wire, I wouldn't have been able to do it (though maybe it wouldn't have come out). A couple times while eating pretzel bars that also have peanuts in them, I've bent that span of wire so that it's making a U-shape between the two teeth but still in the buccal tube. It takes a bit of force to push it back up and in. Thank goodness it's a niti memory wire, and not permanently bent!

Thank you, both of you. The issue is it came out of the front of the tube, so that tooth isn’t connected to the archwire. They did respond back yesterday saying almost exactly what m1090y said to do: try to put it in with a pair of needle nose pliers and if I couldn’t, then just cut it at the end of the previous bracket. I did manage to get it in, although I will admit I definitely did not do it by myself without a mirror; I used both a mirror and my husband to help!

If it is projecting out of the rear of the tube, they usually suggest you clip off the excess with nail clippers, although I suspect it damages the nail clippers.  A very small pair of wire cutters might work as well.

If the problem is that it came out of the front of the tube, I had that happen.  It needs to be put put back in the tube.  I was able to spring the wire so the end lined up with the tube and it went in.  I think I did it without a mirror.  It may depend on how far it went in in the first place.  It could be possible also to use a pair of small needle-nosed pliers to grasp the end of the wire and feed it back into the tube.  If all else fails and it is hurting you as bad as mine was hurting me, you might need to cut it as above where it comes out of the nearest bracket and then let the ortho replace the entire arch wire when you can get back to see them.

If it is still in the tube and comes out from the rear, you can try to push it from the rear to the front with a hard metallic thing, like the plate part of a spoon. It worked for me.

So, I have metal braces and have had them for a while. This past week, my archwire has come out of the buccal tube on the right side of my lower jaw. I have emailed my orthodontist and am waiting for them to get back to me. Has anyone ever had this happen, and if so, what have you done about it?

Mein Freund (27) startete seine KFO Behandlung im Januar 2023 und ich beendete meine im Februar. Nun trage ich jede Nacht die Retainer Schienen.

Er startete seine KFO Behandlung aufgrund seines Tiefbisses, schiefe Zähne hatte er eigentlich nicht. Im Unterkiefer waren seine Zähne allerdings alle leicht nach rechts verschoben (kaum wahrnehmbar). Sein Tiefbiss nervte ihn aber irgendwie.

Der Start der KFO Behandlung erfolgte mit Speed Brackets oben wie unten. Molarenbänder hat er allerdings nicht erhalten dafür aber sehr hohe Aufbisse, welche nun im September entfernt worden sind. Im Gegenzug hat er 2 Aufbisse hinter den Frontzähnen erhalten, wie 2 Rampen.

Am 1. November war es dann soweit und die Kieferorthopädin setzte ihm das Scharnier ein, es handelt sich um ein Powerscope II.
Ich bin gespannt wie es bei ihm weitergeht, sein nächster Termin ist im Dezember.

Agreed. My wife had a period of no treatment during her braces due to various factors (moving house, ortho retiring, covid) for 5 years or so

She is meticulous with her oral hygiene and had no issues with cavities or decay. Her braces at the time were self ligating with steel archwires and she had wire lacing on the front 6, upper and lower so there was no active pressure on from NiTi wires or elastomerics

However, over time she did have some spaces open up, particularly her (almost closed) extraction gaps, which opened up to 5mm or larger. They weren't protected by wire lacing however

My guess is that the primary consideration would be oral hygiene.  If you are scrupulous about keeping everything clean, my guess would be that fixed appliances might even be preferable as Essix retainers wouldn't allow circulation of saliva.  That might even be true on the lingual surfaces with Hawley retainers.  You'll probably have to earn the right to ask for the extension.
