I think we're going to do a couple of more videos between now and Carrie's next adjustment (October 12th). The first will be about her Braces Survival Kit, a cool little item I picked up from Dentakit right before she got her braces.

The other potential vid is a Q&A. This is an idea I got from a member here. I doubt we'll do it on YouTube Live, but if you have questions you want her/us to answer, post them here or send them to me in PM. If there's sufficient interest, we'll do the Q&A.

keep us posted on how things progress and if you get to keep them on for a longer period of time.  I had hoped to have braves same time as my wife, but life got in the way and she is already done and I'm about to get started.  The ortho said she only had a few husband -wife combinations going through treatment at the same time and the office enjoyed when they both would come in for their adjustments together.

Just to bring everyone up to speed, my wife and I both have full-mouth metal braces. I have had mine for about 28 months and my wife for around 22 months. At my last appointment my ortho said she was pleased and we could schedule to get them off. I really don't want them off because I feel my teeth are still to active, and I would like for them to be a lot more stable before I get them removed. However, my wife still has a pretty good amount of time to go, and my ortho actually said she would leave them on and we could get them off together! I never thought that would be an option, but I like it because I like braces. I'm not sure how much time that would lock me into them, but I like the thought o it!

Vor einer Woche habe ich mir eine SomnoFit Schiene bestellt. Mit dem Komfort und dem gewünschten Erfolg bin ich so weit zufrieden.

Könnte ich eine Alternative auch bei euch bekommen?

had my appointment with the ortho.  appliance stays on for another 6 - 8 weeks and then can start on braces.  A lower tooth will need to come out to alleviate the overcrowding and the plan is to do that 6 weeks or so after getting the upper braces put on.  They told me that I'd be wearing power chains for some time along with some type of spring to help close the gap.  They didn't want me to panic, but they did say that in some case headgear is worn at night when you get a tooth removed to help keep things straight for period of time as the gap closes.  Would not have to wear day time and if do need it, would only be for 4 weeks or so.  Had never heard of that before.

so, quite the appointment and some things to tackle in the coming months.  Next step is consult with oral surgeon on the tooth removal and that is in two weeks.

Carrie isn't a complainer, so she doesn't make a big deal about soreness most of the time, even right after an adjustment. The fact that she mentioned the poking archwire several times is how I knew it was truly bothering her. I'm glad I'd already bought the distal end cutter so I could take care of it when we got home. Making an appointment at her ortho and driving 40 minutes round trip just to clip a wire seems excessive.

Anyway, she said she felt better immediately after I clipped the wire, and observed just a couple of hours later how quickly her mouth healed from the sharpness of the wire. Now if I could just get her to wear her Comfort Covers more consistently, she'd almost never have any irritation issues!

I hop the archwire did not hurt her too much ! How does she tolerate the treatment after a few months ?

The Milwaukee trip went well. We had a nice time exploring downtown Milwaukee, and Carrie enjoyed her trip to Indiana and Chicago. Many pics on Flickr. We were on separate flights (my decision to bring her was last-minute) and she did encounter a couple of delays on the way home, but nothing serious.

Her bottom teeth are clearly moving. The archwire on her lower left emerged from the buccal tube while we were in Milwaukee and was stabbing her in the cheek. Once we got home, I pulled out the trusty distal end cutter and clipped it off. She was immediately relieved!

I had some issues trying to contact them as well but they did finally respond. It seems that they are overwhelmed right now!

Mine is very hard to talk with as well! I've only had it for about a day though, and haven't had too much time to use it yet.

I'd love to see pictures! I can show pictures of mine as well.

Strange I have tried to contact them but no luck in getting an answer yet. I have got used to it now it is so hard to talk with! Would you want to see pictures?

That's really interesting - I would maybe try and contact the lab directly if you are able. I ordered a twin block appliance.

I saw in your other thread that your appliance didn't fit well - did you have any luck with that? I need to contact them about making an adjustment to my new appliances.

Strange, I received my first order Saturday but didn't get the impressions. What did you order?

I just received my first order from them yesterday, and they mailed the impressions back to me. Did they not send yours back to you? I've heard they keep them on file, but maybe someone else can chime in.

Wonder if anyone could help as can't get a reply from the bracesshop email.

I have already had an order from them but want to order more.. do I need to do another set of impressions or do they keep casts from previous orders?

appointment this week to see if tongue appliance can come off or if need to leave on longer.  Also, they are going to take impressions on my lower arch to see if a tooth needs to come out when I do get the braces.  They want to see if enough room for the movement needed without doing so. 

I will have my braces on for 20-24 months.

Things are going well. Pain is almost at zero for all teeth at all times. I have one tooth that must me outside of the arch because it is especially tender. The crossbite I have means my upper teeth are generally too far in but the archwire seems to be pulling the back teeth out and the others in.

The only other thing of note is that my one remaining baby tooth (a premolar) has no bracket on it. This means the wire goes across it and I can touch it with my tongue. I found that if I push it I can feel the end of the archwire moving in and out of the end of the molar band. It was innocent fun until I detached the wire from my molar band. It took me 20 minutes to work it back in.

We're off to Milwaukee tomorrow through the 29th, so Flickr updates might be sporadic. I'll try to keep on top of it in case any of you are following!

Business trip for me, but Carrie is going to take a day and drive to Indiana to see her brother in Lafayette then some friends outside Chicago. That girl is always on the go.
