I deleted the videos on Flickr. I only just now realized Flickr limits vids to 3 minutes! I'm setting up an unlisted YouTube channel to host Carrie's progress videos. I'll post a link here when the channel is up and running.

I had to replace my own spacer last night. It had come loose after eating some Chinese food. I could feel, and when I got home, see the center hole as it hung down between my molars.  I decided to take it out and try to replace it as today is my busiest day of the week.

I removed it with tweezers. Next I put two pieces of thread through opposite sides to stretch it enough to make it fit again. It worked well enough but I noticed that it was worn down at one point of the loop. It will be interesting to see if it lasts another week.

It felt so good to have it out for a few minutes.

the spacers I had on my tongue appliance hurt but not too bad - only had 4 of them put in.  like you, I've waited a while to get braces and looking forward to starting as soon as I get the okay to get my appliance removed.

ich bin neu hier und jetzt Mitte 30 und denke über eine kieferorthopädische Behandlung nach und wollte mich mal informieren, was es in meinem Alter noch für Möglichkeiten gibt.

Wie so viele hatte ich in meiner Jugend bereits eine (lose) Zahnspange und leider habe ich das Tragen damals vernachlässigt. Und so blieb ein Großteil der Fehlstellungen erhalten.
Ich habe einen Überbiss und auf der rechten Seite im Oberkiefer stehen Zahn 11 vor und Zahn 12 zurück.
Ich ärgere mich diesbezüglich ein wenig über mich selbst. Ich habe die beiden losen Spangen damals gehasst und mich gegen eine feste Spange gewehrt. Warum meine Mutter mir nicht einfach eine Feste aufgebrummt hat, wo sie doch sonst so bestimmend war, weiß ich bis heute nicht *kopfkratz*

Allerdings hat sich meine generelle Einstellungen zu Zahnspangen heute im Vergleich zu damals sehr verändert. Auch dank eines jüngeren (leider jetzt ex-) Partners, der noch im Zahnspangen-fähigen Alter war und der mir erzählt hat, dass sich die Grundeinstellung der heutigen jungen Generation zum Thema Zahnspange geändert hat. (Ich stelle eine generellen Tendenz zu einer viel körperbewussterem und ästhetischen Einstellung fest. Die jungen Leute rauchen nicht mehr, gehen zu McFit oder betreiben anders Sport und wollen gut aussehen. Zu meiner Zeit war das alles noch ein wenig anders).

Dazu kommt noch eine Vorliebe für Body Modifications (ich habe ein paar Piercings und ein Tattoo und da wird sich sicherlich noch das ein oder andere Schmuckstück dazu gesellen) und auf der ästhetischen Ebene (auf der ich Zahnspangen inzwischen sogar als ein hübsches Accessoire sehe, ähnlich wie im übrigen auch Brillen) hätte ich auch kein Problem mehr mit einer Zahnspange.

Ich weiß seit einer Bekanntschaft aus Texas, dass man auch im nicht mehr ganz so jungen Alter noch Zahnspangen tragen kann. Dieser Bekannte war schon ergraut als ich ein metallenes Lächeln an ihm entdeckte.

Ich weiß auch, dass ich mir auch aufgrund der Kosten in den Fuß beißen sollte, da eine Behandlung in meinem Alter ungleich teurer ist als in meiner Jugend (und das nicht nur aufgrund von Preissteigerungen).

Ich bin sogar bereit das "Kassenmodell" in Kauf zu nehmen (ich beziehe mich damit auf die eine Simpsons Folge, in der Lisa ein Headgear verpasst bekommen hat) und würde wenn es möglich ist sogar einen Außenbogen mit Headgear tragen.

Ich weiß, die meisten Infos kriege ich bei meinem Zahnarzt, aber ich wollte mich schonmal vorab informieren, um mögliche bevorzugte Behandlungsformen zu finden und das Gespräch mit dem Zahnarzt/Kieferorthopäden dementsprechend in die richtige Richtung zu lenken. Außerdem wäre es interessant zu wissen mit was für Kosten ich rechnen muss und wie lang eine Behandlung in meinem Alter wäre

I am 100% excited. Partially because I've waited so long and also because these spacers are really annoying. So many people have told me the spacers are worse than the braces. The metal cannot come soon enough for me.

congrats on the first step - are you nervous or excited about the braces going on?

after seeing your, I s=wish we'd done the same with my wife as the change has been pretty significant in terms of her smile and alignment.

it was originally removable, but now fixed.  I am supposed to get it off in September.  if you are u close, you can see the crib hanging down below my upper teeth and there is a wire that runs across the top of my teeth, which is more visible.

Is your appliances fixed in or removable?

The spacers are on!

I went in this morning and signed the paperwork. After that they took me back for records, which consisted of photos of me smiling and a profile shot. Then the photos were in the chair. They had hand held retractors for each side and took pictures of every angle they could, even some with a mirror in my mouth to get each arch.

Next was impressions. They had me bite down on a piece of wax that was u shaped to see how my teeth meet (in my case don't meet). Next was the impression paste of the lower, then upper jaw. I had to keep my mouth open with my chin downtrying not to drool on the hands of the lovely assistant/tech.

Next, the spacers/separators went in. They are baby blue but only noticeable if I yawn. They have only been in an hour , but I feel the pressure already. It is not bad just noticeable. I find myself biting down softly to feel them move and even running my tongue against them.

The braces go on in 12 days, the 16th of august.

Its great that you need spacers. It seems that many orthos now just bond molar brackets rather than band them. When I had braces I was disappointed to find out that I didn't need spacers! Good luck!

When I had spacers, they had me make 2 appointments, 1 week apart.  1 for spacers, 2nd for banding.

my wife had to only wait a week between spacers and getting bands put on.  I had to wait two weeks from spacers to get my tongue appliance put in.  Like Mike said, situational depending on how fast our teeth move to create the space needed.  Was not excessive pain, but some discomfort for a few days after getting them on.

I realize this is an old post, but I'll just note that my wife got an upper power chain at her second adjustment, about 12 weeks into having braces. It closed up a small but noticeable gap between her front teeth very quickly. It's obviously situational.

Usually just a week or two, as I understand it, depending on how quickly your teeth move.

My spacer appointment is this Friday at 10:00 am. I'm curious how long between getting the spacers till the actual bonding process. The anticipation is killing me? What is the normal time in between?

My dentist recommended braces more than 10 years ago. When I brought it up recently he seemed to be somewhat dismissive, though I do t know why. My guess is he thought I was only asking in relation to tmj disorder which the braces don't always fix.
