Necessary or not, you should ask an orthodontist. Your smile would definitely benefit from it.
I am currently wearing brackets in my mid 50ies. Most people don’t care about my shine metal. The few comments I got were all positive.
I love my special smile and hope I can keep the brackets on for for a while.
So, jump into the adventure ????

I wouldn't judge you by how things are now. However, it looks like you could benefit form treatment and if it is something you want to do, then do it. We only have one go at life, so make it what you want to make it.

As to what people would think if you got braces, I don't think it is a big deal. All of us here are here for a reason-our unique perspective on orthodontics-so we tend to focus on things that others would ignore.

I wouldn’t necessarily judge you, but they definitely do need to get done. If you want to get them, go for it, but if you don’t, then don’t. You probably should, but ultimately it’s your choice. I wore them a couple years back, in my early 30s, and really they’re not that big of a deal. People don’t stare at them or anything, and most don’t comment. If they do, it’s all supportive things.

I need some advice / opinions please. I am finally in a financial position where I can afford to spend some money on my teeth (shown in my profile pic). I've wanted to get them fixed for a long time but in my late 30s, I'm really not sure if it worth the bother at this point.

Asking everyone: Are my teeth bad enough for it to be worth spending the money? If you met me in person, would you judge?

Adult braces wearers / past wearers: From your experience, what would you do in my position? Is it worth it?

Any response appreciated - and be honest!!

Thanks

Yea that sounds like a good idea. Also with elastics it may be better to tighten it a bit.

I'm also thinking of asking for removable pelottes. Is that even an option? I have never seen or read that anywhere. It seems nice to be able to remove the Herbst and pelottes so it can be worn as a simple retainer, as well as to add everything for the full experience. What do you think?

The ones I have are twin blocks with Herbst, tongue crib and upper pelottes. They also do have an expansion screw in both the upper and lower parts.
Not sure what others’ experience is so I don’t know about ‘recommended’ but I definitely find it useful to be able to use the screws even just a tiny bit to adjust the tightness of the fit especially if you want to add headgear.

The appliance you describe is almost exactly what I want to order! The twin block with Pelottes and Herbst seem like an amazing device. I'd also like it without expansion screws so it is more smooth. I was wondering if the screws are recommended to be able to adjust the fit? Or are they pure aesthetically? Do you also have pelottes?

I wonder how many of the people that say an orthodontist said no actually asked. You see people saying "I wanted headgear but no orthodontist will do it for me," but that doesn't explicitly say that they asked, it could quite easily just be an assumption. It's only the times when the orthodontist says "yes" that there is any evidence that they were asked - my mouth is filled with said evidence. I think if you're showing that you have thought about it and have a sound explanation, even if it's misguided, then they'll consider your request

I did it once and she almost called me crazy lol

Not sure why they have double clasps on both appliances, she didn’t say way. Maybe to make them fit tighter? Don’t know. The top one does have headgear tubes which I have to get soon ????????????

Well done!  Fine looking appliances. The Adams clasps on your top first molars appear to be doubled up. Is it  separate clasps holding the headgear tubes?

For me it was very simple to view the photos.
I cannot understand why they have been censored before, there are simply the appliances to be seen.

Still censored :/
Maybe put them on a Flickr profile and then link them or just tell us the account username in case the links get censored :D

Do you think your braces pictures have been censored because your braces are flesh coloured? That would be quite amusing.

They've been automatically censored because the website they were uploaded to is on a block list (as is, for example, my own website). You'll need to use another provider.

Sorry to hear that. But remember it probably sounds worse to you than what other people actually hear. Hang on in there!

Speech is still pretty bad. It’s a bit of a mouthful. I think it’s probably now as good as it’s going to get though. I can talk but there is still a very pronounced lisp. I thought it would be better than it is
