This is for sure my dream appliance!!! It must be so amazing to wear.

The upper and lower twin block stay securely to your pallet and you can open and close normally and talk. bei mir ist aber auch die Frage, was der Spaß kosten kann. Denn es geht mir um den Spaß.
Der KFO hat zu meiner Story vom Kiefergelenksproblem (das seit vielen Jahren Faktum ist) zwar ein bisschen beschrieben, was man Aufwändiges machen könnte, ist dann aber zu dem Schluss gekommen: Selbst nach Jahren und Tausenden Euro wäre ein bleibender Erfolg (in Sachen Kiefergelenk) kaum zu erwarten. Dann habe ich ihn befragt, ob man es denn nicht 'für die Kosmetik' machen könnte, und er hat es abgelehnt (Jooo, verdrehte Eckzähne sind natürlich nicht schön, aber...). Also: Schlechte Strategie!
Damit bleibt 'for the fun of it' eben eine Schiene mit Ergebnis oder etwas Loses ohne Ergebnis.
Und dann ist die Courage, an eine feste Spange ernsthaft zu denken, ein scheues Gefühl, das selten vorbeikommt. Hat auch mit meinem ziemlich öffentlichen Beruf zu tun.

Ein Privatvergnügen ist es bei mir auch, schließlich geht es ja nur um einen (relativ großen) Lückenschluss im ok.Trotzdem geht es bei mir nicht ganz so spontan zu wie bei Dir. Obwohl Überraschungen nicht ausbleiben. Ich war zum Beispiel von einer Reinen Ok-Behandlung ausgegangen, doch beim Besprechen des Behandlungsplan hieß es plötzlich: Ok und uk sollen beklebt werden, um ein gutes Ergebnis zu erreichen. Vermute mal, dass kfo immer für Überraschungen gut sind...

Glückwunsch zu deiner Entscheidung - Auf einen schriftlichen Behandlungsplan hab ich verzichtet da sowieso 100%iges Privatvergnügen - für diese "bürokratische Arbeitserleichterung" gabs deshalb auch einen kleinen Rabatt

Und mein KFO ist sowieso eher ziemlich spontan bei seinen Entscheidungen was grade benötigt wird

Gratuliere zu deiner Entscheidung!
Ich hab für mich auch den Entschluss gefasst, demnächst zum KFO zu gehen. Corona bedingt hab ich das allerdings noch etwas raus geschoben und genieße momentan noch die Zeit mit meinem modifizierten Twinblock aus dem Shop hier.
Ich trag ihn fast jede Nacht natürlich mit Headgear (Highpull und Nackenzug) Und ab und zu auch auf Geschäftsreisen, während dem Autofahren.
Ich werde nächste Woche mal bei meiner Zahnärztin einen Kontrolltermin vereinbaren, inkl. Mundhygiene. Dann werd ich mich mal zu einem Erstgespräch beim KFO anmelden.

Ich hoffe Du wirst uns auf dem Laufenden halten...

Selbsttherapie funktioniert nicht, da würde ich auch die Finger von lassen. aber frag doch mal deine Kfo, ob man die kosmetischen Änderungswünsche nicht auch oder sogar besser mit Brackets erreichen könnte. So lief es bei mir. Zuerst sprach die kfo nur von schienen im Beratungsgespräch. Als ich dann fragte, ob nicht auch Brackets eine Alternative wären, weil ich nicht ständig vor der Entscheidung stehen will, ob ich Sie reintue oder nicht, war sie total überrascht und begeistert. Sie hatte einfach nicht damit gerechnet, dass ein Erwachsener Brackets den unsichtbaren Schienen vorziehen könnte. Und so beginnt in drei wochen meine Behandlung mit Brackets.

Auch bei mir geht’s jetzt bald los, nachdem auch ich vorher mit Fake braces ( Aktivator mit Headgear) experimentiert habe, aus reiner Lust an der Spange. Der überstieg von Fake braces zu einer echten Behandlung ist schon sehr aufregend. Ist nochmal eine ganz andere Nummer, wenn du plötzlich einen echten Behandlungsplan in den Händen hältst und weißt, dass dich deine Arbeitskollegen in drei Wochen plötzlich mit braces sehen werden. Mein Programm: Brackets oben und unten, dazu powerchains zum Lückenschluss der Frontzähne und Gummizüge zur Korrektur der Mittellinie. Bin wahnsinnig gespannt und schon ziemlich nervös.

In the meantime I had a detailed look at the braces shop and come to the conclusion I'm interested in one of following 3 devices:

1. Hawley-retainer (upper and lower). It is not moving around in the mounth. (I had an upper Hawley when I was 14y but I hated it)
2. Active plate (the modified stretching plate upper and lower). It is not moving around in the mounth. But I guess it is thicker? is that right?
3. The third one is the "Modified Twin-Block with pelottes and Telescope Appliance". But I don't know if it stays in your mouth without moving around. Is it easy still possible to do a normal conversation and can you eat with this device? Is there anyone that has this device? Could you share a picture?

I will order the extra headgear tubes.

What about the lip bumpers? It is possible to add them on each of the devices? Or this in "not done in real-life".

I'm also interested in headgear. But I want to select a device that is also used in real life. I don't want to combine hardware that would never be applied to a person in real life.

Or maybe you suggest another device?

Could you please tell help me finding the answers to my questions.

She also does not want me to get a impression from my dentist either.  Maybe someone on here can let me have one of their retainers to keep?  For now that the only way for me to get more retainers.  She does not want me to buy them from ebay too.  Can someone on here help me with this dilemma?  PM me if you can help me.

Exactly, those appliances make no sense together unfortunately. Herbst appliance can't be used for an underbite and tongue crib is used to eliminate your tongue thrust. People with the tongue thrust problem usually don't have crowding or a small upper jaw, because the tongue is pushing the teeth forward and out. And headgear can't be high-pull either, especially not for stabilisation purposes. Sounds nice as a fantasy treatment, I'm just not buying it.... but cool story bro

That's interesting. Wouldn't you usually do the exact opposite to fix an underbite? E.g. hold the lower jaw back and pull the upper jaw forward with something like a facemask?

I don't have any pictures at the moment, I'll try and get some sorted in the near future. I believe that the headgear is being used to hold my upper jaw back whilst the herbst pushes my lower jaw forwards - I have/had a significant underbite so that's what they're used for.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome treatment plan, especially with an interest in orthodontics! Would love to see pics and updates!

That sounds like quite the experience.
Do you have some pictures of your appliances?
Very curious how it would even work to combine headgear with a herbst appliance. I've never seen something like that.

It was difficult to hide my interest and excitement in getting the braces and appliances, but I managed to hide that by expressing willing to actually get the problems fixed, so I think I handled that situation relatively well, I've just got to keep it up for the remainder of my treatment. ;D
I'm sort of sad that I've only got two years of my treatment left, but I remember the first few days with the expander and tongue crib well. It affected my speech a lot. I have quite a small mouth which means that those two appliances plus the headgear wires, braces and herbst filled up a lot of space, which also made eating difficult, but quite fun at the same time.

Was it difficult to hide your interest when you found out you needed this treatment or when the appliances and braces were being applied? What were your first few days like with the expander and tongue crib?

haha I agree longer than a year would've been great but I suppose I have been lucky with all those appliances!
