I'll definitely follow up, though it may not be for a couple of months. I want to enjoy the Hawleys and make some good photos and videos. Plus the fakes are not cheap!

By overbite, do you mean overjet or deep bite?

I am 38 and have a deep bite and a class 2 bite, and started orthodontic treatment back in June. I have a thread about it here where I have been posting updates, but I'll go over what will be done for me for each of these aspects of my bite. I was basically told by my ortho and another I got a consult from that invisalign/aligners wouldn't be great for my case.

My class 2 bite would give me an overjet, except that my upper incisors are tilted inward (so a class 2 division 2 bite). I am about to start getting that corrected with a Carriere appliance. Basically a different way of using elastics (specifically class 2 elastics, from upper canines to lower first molars, for me). I was told I'll have the Carriere for 4-6 months. 4mm sounds larger than what I would have, though, but I'm not sure. Some orthodontists might suggest extracting premolars for an overjet of that size, and/or they may suggest some other sort of distalizer other than a Carriere.

For my deep bite, braces by themselves can correct it, but that can be slow. My deep bite was I think 75-85%, meaning my upper incisors covered somewhere between 75 and 85% of my lower incisors when I bite down. Once I have full braces, I will be getting posterior box elastics to help bring the rear teeth together, which will then cause the deep bite to open up some in the front. I am also probably going to get bite turbos on the back of my upper incisors, which will prevent me from biting down on the lower front brackets, and will also help with the bite opening up quicker.

I'd definitely say go get a few free consultations (assuming orthodontists in your area do them for free), and you'll get to hear what specifically would be recommended for a treatment for you. If you go to, say, three and don't like what they're suggesting, go to some more. If you're not happy with what any orthodontist suggests, then maybe you don't do anything? But I think, if you do want to correct your bite, you will find an ortho somewhere that proposes a treatment you'd be happy with.

So I’m probably too much of a wimp to actually go to an orthodontist and ask the question so I’ll post it up here and see what peoples thoughts/experiences are.

I have a slight overbite (about 4mm) which is enough for me to be conscious of but not so bad that I’ve ever felt needed treating. (Despite my ‘fascination’ for braces, I’ve always been too scared!) My dentist brought it up once when I was a kid but never went any further than that.

Now I’m in my early 30’s and wondering what might be involved in my treatment as an adult should I want to actually get this sorted?..

Has anyone here had an overbite corrected as an adult?

Hatte in meiner Behandlungszeit als Jugendlicher einen, den ich nachts mit der Zeit richtig mochte.

das sind sehr schöne Spangen, auch deine Erfahrungen sind sehr gut beschrieben. Haben andere auch solche Erfahrungen gemacht, und Fotos von ihren bestellten Spangen. Ich wusste nicht, dass man so leicht auch Änderungen wünschen kann!

Yesterday I got spacers for the lower lingual holding arch. Four in total, around my lower first molars.

So far, not as much soreness as the first day or two of the braces, and I think not quite as much soreness as I remember having as a kid when I had spacers. Kind of surprising me is that I’ve been feeling tightness or pressure across my lower front teeth.

Next week, I have the impression taken for the lower lingual holding arch (and maybe the bands are test-fit, or maybe even placed? They said the appointment would be 50 minutes, and I know an impression doesn’t take that long), and the week after I have the appointment to place the lower lingual holding arch and the Carriere.

I mean, I have full metal, but there are reasons other than looks that went into the decision. To rule out Invisalign, which I think would have been my choice, is my ortho said I am a “borderline case”, which means that I would probably work with Invisalign, but it’s not a guarantee and I may need braces afterwards. At least, that is what my ortho says. According to the reviews, she says that to everyone. I don’t really like the look of ceramics, and my ortho only does the top arch with an additional charge of 300 USD. That is essentially $22 for a tooth, which isn’t worth it for me. Lingual seems like it would cut up the tongue, so that wasn’t even in the question.

If you do end up doing metal, do colored ligatures. Everyone can see that you have them, so you might as well embrace the look!

Just for reference, I have an edge-to-edge bite and my teeth are wearing away at my molars, which is the main reason for treatment. There is also some minor crookedness, but it isn’t that bad.  I didn’t even have to press or go to a different ortho!

I know this is a really detailed reason, but that is what happened in real life, and that’s what this question was about.

I’d love to say full metal. The more gear in my mouth the better! But I’d probably chicken out. I had the option of getting braces as a kid to correct a slight overbite and never went though with it. Even though I love the idea of big bulky braces as an adult, I’m in no rush to tell my dentist.  :-[

Welche Spange du dir letztendlich bestellst musst du dir selbst beantworten.
Im Gegensatz zu einer aktiven Behandlung hast du ja die Wahl ;-)

Du musst dir halt vor Augen führen was du gerne möchtest:
Willst du eine Spange für längere Zeit des Tages im Mund tragen, die einfach ohne große Eingewöhnung zu tragen ist?
Dann versuche es doch mit einer oder zwei Dehnplatte. In meiner aktiven Behandlung war das auch meine erste Spange. Mit ein bisschen Übung kann man damit so gut wie fehlerfrei Sprechen lernen, sie stört kaum und dennoch ist sie immer präsent, da sie den Gaumen bedeckt.

Oder möchtest du den kurzen Kick mit einer großen Spange wie Bionator oder Aktivator. Kenne ich auch, ich musste auch viele Jahre einen Bionator und Twinblocks tragen, da brauchst du aber einige Zeit, bis du dich daran gewöhnt hast wenn du sie länger tragen oder gar damit schlafen willst. Wenn man so etwas tragen muß, dann war aus eigener Erfahrung der Twinblock angenehmer.

Als die aktive Behandlung vorbei war, hat direkt was im Mund gefehlt. Letztendlich habe ich mir auch das RPE Herbstscharnier machen lassen, passt sehr gut eine ganz neue Erfahrung wenn man bedenkt, daß man diese Spange in der richtigen Behandlung fest eingeklebt bekommt.

I like clear acrylic or gum colours as I think they make 'self prescribed' (i.e fake) devices look more authentic.

Sobald das Labor die zahnärztliche Wärme erhält, beginnen sie mit der Produktion kieferorthopädisches Gerät. Bei der nächsten Bestellung werden Sie vom Labor gefragt, ob Sie das in den vorherigen Prozessen verwendete Zahnmodell bereits verwenden möchten

Da ich mir exakt dieses Modell bestellen möchte, lese ich hier begeistert mit.
Das klingt alles hervorragend, aber wie ist denn nun letztendlich die Lage mit der Frage, ob die Metallschienen auch gut halten?
Ich hätte erwartet, dass sie ohne Haftcreme schon gut sitzen könnte. Da ich aber vermutlich auch im UK einen Expander nehmen werde, kann ich ja vermutlich auch über den etwas besseren Sitz auslösen, oder?

Den Zusammenhang zwischen "3D-Dentalmodell bestellen" und "jetzt haben Sie Deine Abzüge" verstehe ich nicht ganz. Meine Abzüge werden sie ja auch ohne dass ich das Modell bestell haben, oder verpasse ich was?

Ich bin nahe dran, zu bestellen, habe jetzt zunächst das Abdruckset bestellt, damit ich noch ein Paar Tage habe bis ich mich entgültig entscheiden muss.
Es wäre wirklich mega, wenn jemand etwas zu meinen Anfängerfragen schreiben könnte, weil ich etwas Sorge habe, dass ich mich mit der Spange etwas übenehme, besonders jetzt wo ich weiß, dass ich auch im UK einen Expander hinzufügen kann Ich hoffe, dass ich das gut packe und es nicht einfach viel zu viel ist, auf der anderen Seite soll ja ja auch zu viel sein
