Hawley retainers and rubber bands

Can you put on rubber bands while wearing hawley retainers? I noticed the hawley’s have little bow part near the canine. Can you slide a rubber band on there for top and bottom or will the retainer come off?

Anyone have experience with this or can try it let me know thank you in advance
