As first step in my orthodontic treatment, my dentist and orthodontist recomended a tongue crib to help with some issues. They want to get that addressed before any braces go on. i just got the appliance today and it is quite an adjustment. Ayone ever had this appliance on and if so, did you have issues wih drooling and talking?

I had mine for 7 months it was a struggle to talk and eat

Went to ortho today and they now want to make the appliance non removable and so are doing that next week. Have to keep it in for 3 months which may delay the braces a bit. Got the separators put in and have just started to be a bit painful.

Why do they put it in fixed?
Can you talk in the meantime without problems when wearing it?

They put it in field so it was easier to talk and wear longer. They also are adding something to help my tongue resting at the top of my mouth

Fixed appliance went in on Friday and made it through the weekend with only a bit of pain and Motrin took care of that. Good news is that it is not too noticeable and only took a few days to work through the saliva and lisping. Still a small amount, but not interfere with my job at all. I go back in 6 weeks to have them check the appliance and see if any adjustments needed.

Is your appliances fixed in or removable?
Can you see it from the front behind your front teeth?

it was originally removable, but now fixed. I am supposed to get it off in September. if you are u close, you can see the crib hanging down below my upper teeth and there is a wire that runs across the top of my teeth, which is more visible.

appointment this week to see if tongue appliance can come off or if need to leave on longer. Also, they are going to take impressions on my lower arch to see if a tooth needs to come out when I do get the braces. They want to see if enough room for the movement needed without doing so.

had my appointment with the ortho. appliance stays on for another 6 - 8 weeks and then can start on braces. A lower tooth will need to come out to alleviate the overcrowding and the plan is to do that 6 weeks or so after getting the upper braces put on. They told me that I'd be wearing power chains for some time along with some type of spring to help close the gap. They didn't want me to panic, but they did say that in some case headgear is worn at night when you get a tooth removed to help keep things straight for period of time as the gap closes. Would not have to wear day time and if do need it, would only be for 4 weeks or so. Had never heard of that before.
so, quite the appointment and some things to tackle in the coming months. Next step is consult with oral surgeon on the tooth removal and that is in two weeks.

had my appointment with oral surgeon. They said the tooth that needed to come out was easy one to do and shouldn't be that painful at all. The only negative is it is near the front of the mouth, so the gap will be noticeable for a number of months until it can be closed up.
I did meet with the ortho again and we set up a date of mid November to do the upper braces. They want those on for two months or so before I get the lower tooth removed. After that, they'll add on the lower braces. Will be happy to get the tongue appliance off, too.

change of plans with braces. They are actually trying a expander as they do feel they can achieve some expansion in the upper. so, got the spacers put in yesterday and next week, get the expander. Expansion to be done over 6 - 7 weeks and then hold it in place for another month before braces go on. Anyone here ever get an expander and if so, what was it like?

went in for check up today and they are going to keep expansion efforts for another 2 - 3 weeks. After that, they will keep the appliance in and just hold things for a period of time. I will find out at my next appointment if they will put on lower braces or wait until the expander gets taken out and put both upper and lower in at same time.

went in today and things are looking good with the expansion efforts and so far, everything holding stable. Just a few more weeks with this and then get spacers for some bands on the lower molars along with taking out the expander and put bands in the top molars. All set up for mid April to get braces put on - they decided today that they will do both uppers and lowers at same time. They did tell me I will also get bite turbos put on at this appointment. Given my overbite, I will likely have to have those on for the first half of my treatment

Sounds like your treatment is moving along! Do you have pictures of your appliance and progress?

Not much to see progress wise with the appliance since it is training the tongue. I posted a pic of the appliance when it was removable. I’ll find it and post again. My plan on braces is to post every month or two pics of how it all looks
