Do the expansion screws operate, or are they somehow locked to stop you screwing up your teeth?

they're not blocked in any way, they can be turned as you want.. (and most time you want  ;))

I was able to get lower impressions and an appliance made with a fixed retainer behind my lower teeth no problems.  I ordered ordered the modified twin block with herbst appliance.  I don't have any pics to share unfortunately, I lost my appliance in a move.

It is a shame you lost the braces bracedb4.... Is that true that the modified twin block with herbst appliance moves your lower jaw forward?? I have just finished invisalign with rubber bands to correct Class ii and i like to try again the experience of correcting my bite with the herbst

I've also done it and ordered the modified twinblock.. i Got the impression kit today but unfortunately they forgot the wax plate i asked for.. i wrote a note in the return package that i want the lower jaw being pushed forward. if they can do it without the wax bite okay if not they should send me some wax..  taking the impressions was a bit of pain.. first round i used way too much material so the tray didn't fit right.. second round i used right amount but not proper positioned.. third round finally was ok.. i hope the impressions are okay :)

So now the waiting process begins..

@xxxforce The waiting process is the hardest part! I remember waiting for my modified twin block...it was hard, but well worth the wait! What other appliances do you have?

I agree about the wait.
I can remember almost bursting with excitement during the couple of weeks between me having impressions taken and getting my first appliances.
A long time ago, now, and I actually went to the lab for the impressions and then back for the fitting.
All of that added to the excitement though. And then again when I went back for some different ones.

I also agree with you, totally!
To which lab did you go for the fitting? To the Lab of the shop?
I really would enjoy getting skme new braces fit by professionals.
Even the possibility to see some of the  option in nature before deciding...

Looking foreward to an exciting trip to Berlin ????

It was a few years ago.
It was a lab which made appliances for many dentists and orthodontists but they have now stopped doing this for individuals unfortunately.

Damn! :/ have anyone in the forum asked bracesshop if you can make the impressions at the lab in Berlin?
me and my girlfriend tried to do the impressions at home with the last braces we bought, but the braces we got didn't fit.

as far as I know they don't offer this option - but it should be no problem that you can go to a local dentist/dental lab at your place asking for paid impressions to be made and getting a plaster model!

Many dental offices will make you a set of impressions. I had some work done that required impressions be made, and all I did was ask them to make me a second set for myself. They will be curious and want to know why you want them. Just tell them that you would like a copy to see what your teeth look like now.

You could also tell them that you do boxing, karate, hockey or something similar and need a custom fitted mouthguard. If you order professional mouthguards online, you'll actually be asked to send impressions.

Zoot that is a good idea, but yeah my girlfriend and I have the same dentist as her parents, so dont know if he would tell her parents if he made her an impression for a mouthguard for some sport she doesn't go to  :)

And in Denmark we really can't go to another dentist place, because we have it over our health care system and you can only have one dentist at the time.
