Yes I know what you mean about the fine line between "interesting enough" and too much.
I have had various Hawleys for quite a few years and also just simple top and bottom plates without front arch wires to wear all the time even around people I know.
I also have a bionator which is a whole different ball game. Its really like a top and bottom Hawley combined together. There's a breathing slot at the front. It's really comfortable and when it's in it looks like normal Hawleys with arch wires around top and bottom teeth BUT it holds my jaw rigidly with my teeth a little way apart. I have got used to talking with it in but I can only wear it away from people I know. It's obvious that I can't move my jaw but, of course, almost no one would ask why.
If they did, it would be easy to just say I was recovering from a jaw injury.
I can manage about 24 hours with it in but of course I can only have soup or liquids!

So...... my braces have finally arrived!!

I picked them up yesterday lunch time and went straight back to the car to try them on - they are a perfect fit!

The modified twin blocks with telescopic appliance is not only a mouthful to say but a mouthful of plastic and metal. I drove to a shop and wore them to ask the lady behind the counter for something - I could see her obviously looking, but she didn't say anything.

Once I got home after work, I tried it all with the headgear to finish the look.

I'm travelling out of town with work next week so am hoping to pluck up the courage to wear the headgear in public.

To anyone who isn't sure about ordering from bracesshop - stop hesitating and just do it. The quality and workmanship is excellent - the down side is it takes a long time from ordering to arriving - mainly down to international postage.

I'm going to take some photos of the brace in if anyone is interested?

oh yes, pics please! That's such an interesting appliance and it's hard to picture what it looks like when worn. I've never seen something like it in real life.

I wore the headgear in public!!! I went to a shopping centre out of town - went in a few shops and bought a few things. Got a lot of stares but I really wanted someone to talk about it to me which was disappointing! A very surreal experience!!

@mr-metal
That's awesome. Hope to hear more about your adventures and see more photos. I'm also contemplating having fakes made.

Hallo,

schade.

https://www.bracesforum.net/index.php?action=profile;u=6600
