This is my second time with braces though:( I had them from age 11-13 and my teeth were perfect for 10 years. Then my teeth got super crooked and I developed an openbite, so I hope this time around my teeth stay relatively straight for the rest of my life!!! :) jen

Jen, I had to wear braces twice as well. I got them a couple of weeks before my tenth birthday, and they came off when I was 12 already, though I couldn't finish the treatment. Now I just got braces agan and I will have to wear them for at least four years.

I like braces (preferably no colors), silver fillings, silver caps, crooked teeth, small gaps in teeth, retainers, permanent retainers. I also have a bunch of dental equipment and bondage gear. I take photos of all my female friends' teeth who I am close with.

That means I'm old enough to have had phase I orthodontic treatment in the 80s, when I was a kid. I think starting treatment in elementary school was a pretty new thing at the time? I sure thought it was exciting though. I had a babysitter who had metal braces and elastics and a bite plate and I was hoping to get something really elaborate (haha! I had no idea) like her, but since I didn't even have all my teeth yet it didn't really work that way. I guess the treatment was super successful though because I wore braces for about a year and a half, got them off before I was ten, and have had straight teeth and a perfect bite ever since. Never needed to do that phase II.

The fascination, however, stuck with me!

Later on when I ended up with braces myself, I hoped to get something similar -- but no luck. The most I ended up with was metal braces and elastics -- both as a teenager and an adult.

November 2017, 14:48:36 PM: just turned 30, never expected to be wearing a mouthful of orthodontic equipment when i turned 30 let alone wearing full metal braces and heavy elastics for 3=4years, and a pendulum expander which is now going to remain fitted for at least another 9 months so 19 months in total. so glad i agreed to having what is now going to be a long and extensive orhtodontics.

I hated it then but wouldn't mind having them back on for a week or two now. Not for long though, the spikes and headgear get old fast!

That's a nice way of thinking about it! I certainly don't feel old, or how I used to imagine it might feel like to reach "middle age"!

Interesting story (aren't they all?)

I was having some jaw pain and tooth pain in one of my top left premolars. I actually thought I'd cracked the tooth so I told my regular dentist and he told me that it was because my bite was off and all the bite pressure was hitting that tooth. He referred me to an ortho.

Saw the ortho thinking and he said that basically the whole top left side of my teeth were a half a tooth too forward. Invisalign wasn't an option to correct the bite. They needed to extract the premolar to make room and pull everything back. 2 year of braces was the recommended treatment.

I was worried about the perception of braces but deep down I wanted them so I said f it. It was a great decision.

It's been great. Nothing crazy but I'll never forget the excitement of getting them on. It was one of the best experiences I've had.

I'm waiting for a fake braces (upper and lower retainer with brackets and headgear) that i buyed same weeks ago in bracesshop. I love adult woman in braces (orthodontic and backbrace, milwaukee is the best). I hope to find same italian woman with my same interest.

I'm also sixty, and was one of those who wore full bands, along with elastics, a cervical headgear and later a high-pull headgear with j-hooks.

Got a thing about braces when I was 12. That was in 1974.
I wore braces (retainer only) from 1976 to 1978. Then from 1986 to 1987 (retainer again) and finally brackets (with headgear!) from 1999 to 2003.
