Which kind of braces do you prefer? Fixed or removable ones...
-
I prefer fixed braces, because you can take it out, so you have to play a real game. My treatment with fixed braces went very fast. After that i got a retainer, wich I diden't wear very often. So my treatment with retainer went twice as much as the rest.
Carla
-
Definately fixed, silver braces :!:
-
Fixed braces with fixed appliances! No taking them out!
-
I love removable brace, there is something more in mounth
For me is the lisp of girls wearing removable Braces the Great.
-
Way prefer a mouthful of fixed steel braces!
-
They're both attractive!
-
Fixed, because you have to deal with them everyday. You can't remove braces to eat or brush your teeth.
-
I think I liked silver fixed the best, however I like retainers best on my wife.
-
I very much like removable. They give a so sweet shine smile and it is nice to watch when they are taking out and put in.
-
it's a toss up.....the complexity of the hardware of fixed appliances or being able to see a woman remove her retainer and put it back in....decisions, decisions.....
-
You can have girls with fixed braces top and bottom plus removable devices, like lip bumpers and biteplates, so you can have the best of both worlds.
-
 fixed is the only way to go!!!
jen
-
Full bands.
But who has ever seen any?
They're gone, I suppose.
-
I agree. Full bands are cool. It's been a long time since I've seen anybody with them though.
-
 yeah i dont see full bands every coming back in style now with all those new age invisables ones and stuff
jen
-
I prefer my girlfriend's braces. They are fixed and silver
-
headgears are my favarite but if i have to choose between these two i say fixed whats sexy about something you cant see?
-
I think clear braces look worse than metal ones.
-
the more in the mouth the better
-
Actually,
I like a couple of different things... Neither of which have their own picture forum on here...
I like fixed braces - Particularly when the molar bands are showing. Those seem to be the only place they use bands anymore, and even some don't have those. But some have 1, 2, or sometimes even 3 bands per quadrant.
That was when I first discovered that I liked braces. There was a girl in line in front of me on the first day of the eighth grade. She was shouting across the room at one of her friends in another line. She didn't have her brackets on yet, but the bands were on and I saw them. I wanted to ask her to open her mouth and stare at them... but... you know... THAT would NOT be acceptable.
It is difficult to find clear hi-res shots of people with their mouth open showing the molar bands.
The other thing I like to see is the lower permanant retainer on the back of the bottom front teeth. There are a LOT of them out there. I even had the privelage of dating a girl who had one.
It is hard to find good quality pics of those as well.
Fixed braces are nice as well... but at this point, I have seen, and have a collection of thousands of good pics. I have thought about opening a webshots album for a while now, but first, I would want to go through them and crop them and eliminate the lo-res shots.
It seems that I tend to look at things that society doen't pay any attention to... elevator shafts, Bowling alley pin spotting machnes, and braces. I could care less about the inside of the elevator car, the pin machine from the bowlers area and on some level, brackets on the 6 front teeth. It seems to be the inner workings of these things that draws my attention.
Not that I am "TURNED ON" by bowling alley machines or elevator shafts... In much the same fashion as I am not aroused by braces on young girls. The older ones though... Those are what I enjoy looking at..
Sorry... off on a tangent here. This is actually the first time I have written about my "likes".
-
I prefer women with fixed metal braces, powerchains and especially elastics.
-
I like fixed better but I'm not picky. I'll take either.
-
I love removable baces and headgears, especially combined like in a hansa applicance.
-
aktivators thats is beutifull braces special the van beek aktivator
with headgear
-
fixed fullband metalbraces :D
thats the greatest!!!
-
Fixed fullbands, and elastics / herbst appliance :)
-
i also prefer fixed braces with elastics
-
I've always felt like a major part of the fascination stems from the fact that they (fixed, old-fashioned) can't be removed at will.
-
I like both fixed and removable.
Removable have the lisp but fixed tend to look better.
-
Normally I would say fixed headgear, but thre are only these two possibilities, so I had to choice fixed braces.
Maby you can make another choice with headgear included.
Yours F-1
-
Hey F-1,
i thougt a fixed headgear is a fiction to make lil kids afraid... or is this a real orthodontic appliance?
-
definetly fixed braces
-
But how do you have a shower then? Or eat?
-
you take the strap off and leave the facebows in i think, or change into a waterproof one which ive heard about in alot'a stories. dunno if they exist though.
-
Hey Marty,
are these stories correct?
-
Om the German board, a linkwas posted to a document from an orthodontist. It reads:
"Wir wünschen uns mit Ihnen, zu einem guten Ergebnis kommen zu können. Dazu benötigen wir Ihr Verständnis als auch zuverlässige Mitarbeit. Nur so können wir vermeiden, das Headgear im Extremfall so befestigen zu müssen, daß der Patient es selber nicht entfernen kann."
With my relatively bad German knowledge, I believe this translates to:
"We want to help you to success. Therefore we need your understanding and cooperation. Only in this way can we avoid in having to fix the headgear extreme cases so the patient can't remove it."
(See https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://www.orthodont-toll.de/headgear.pdf)
Haven't seen anything about this anywhere else, and I believe it is mainly a threat directed towards disobedient patiens (who are plenty, not least when it comes to headgear). I mean, fixing the HG seriously inflicts with the rest of the patient's life with respect to eating, drinking, doing sports etc., and I do not believe othodontists are willing to do that.
Perhaps it was different earlier when braces were not as developed as today. Perhaps some orthodontists even bond them for a couple of days to get the patient to wear them in public. But I can't imagine it would be more.
-
fixed metal braces:) although I like fixed clear braces too, but am happy with my choice to go with silver!
-
I prefer headgear...
-
i like headgear too
-
I love the silvery-metal look! It is beautiful! Especially with no colors or little hooks and rubberbands. I am not a big fan of headgear but some girls look really cute with it. I don't really like removable braces.
-
i love fixed braces
-
really like both.. if my girlfriend had to wear i would like her to wear the fixed one and palatal expender and elastics ;) so would have shiny metal and " lisp " ;D ;D
-
definitely fixed braces
-
I like the braces that stay in. Plus I like the metal (silver) kind.
-
Have to say I prefer removable.
Although when theres someone that wears both removable and fixed...I find it quite interesting.
-
i prefer fixed braces, probably because you cant take them out or hide them.
but im interested in removable appliances - like fränkel - as well.
-
Definitely shiny metal fixed braces! I really like them when a person in braces has had them for a little while and their teeth are improving. They tend to smile a lot more and not seem as self-conscious. Their metallic smile and elastics looks terrific!
-
I prefer the fixed metal braces, not to say I don't find removable braces attractive though :)
-
Fixed metal is good. Extra added attractions like hooks, springs, powerchains, elastics are better. Regardless, what's most interesting are how they effect the wearer in smiling, taking, etc. Some people seem to be more effected than others, or at least more conscious of them.
-
I like fixed metal braces, i have always been facisinated seeing people with out a mouthful of metal and wires. I am now in braces and enjoy how permanent my braces are and the feeling of knowing my teeth will be constantly bracketed and wired up for the next couple years
-
I personally prefer removable. The way they make you lisp and are annoying to do anything normal with like eating and drinking is great I think.
-
i like headgear
-
Fixed ones, with for instance elastics
-
I like both, fixed and removable in general..
But I don't like any type of braces which make it impossible to kiss! ;)
-
i like removable most of all.
-
Fixed ones, with for instance elastics
they definitely look better with elastics
-
I like both, fixed and removable in general..
But I don't like any type of braces which make it impossible to kiss! ;)
Exactly like this :)))
-
Alter feminine ego of mine:
Girl wearing
Full braces withe powerchains, removable combo headgear, "reasonable" amount of class II elastics, removable biteplate on the top, fixed lower arch expander, Herbst
-
I am a fan of removable braces myself. It doesn't get better than a nice woman with a retainer in my opinion... ;D
-
Alter feminine ego of mine:
Girl wearing
Full braces withe powerchains, removable combo headgear, "reasonable" amount of class II elastics, removable biteplate on the top, fixed lower arch expander, Herbst
It`s tough to pack all that stuff at one mouth :)
-
Sounds great!!! Can you proof it? If you have a pic, just send me a PM, and I will help you to publish it here!
Greez, Owly
I don't have one, but I wish I could. I should have put "imaginary" ego in my post..... opps.
-
I love removable braces... Fixed ones are great, but for me the plastic plates and the lisp put the removable ones a step beyond
-
when I was younger I used to prefer the removables. but with time i get used to the idea and feel of the fiexd ones.
-
Fullbands are my favourite!
my first girlfriend (she was 16, i was 17) were lower fullbands...
and upper only the 4 frontteeth were in normal metalbrackets... the molars in bands!!
-
Definitely removable. The plastic plate feels great, the bigger the better.
-
like both but prefer fixed ones
especially with expanders/herbst/headgear/elastics/lipbumpers
-
i like them both it switch day to day
-
Removable! To me there's not much point if there's no plastic at the top of your mouth!
-
Removable! To me there's not much point if there's no plastic at the top of your mouth!
If you had the option, would you have liked fixed brackets with a plastic appliance? Take a look at my 'dream treatment' posting and let us know!
-
On me - I like my removable retainer. As someone else said, the feeling of plastic.
On the ladies, I like fixed. Nothing like a non-removable silver smile, being stuck and having to live with it.
Both instances, however, are vastly improved with the addition of a headgear - preferably a "Real" one, not some diminutive neck-strap that can be huidden under a ponytail.
-
i like removable braces. retainer are so sexy.
-
Anything with a headgear is fine with me >:D
-
full metal bands, elastics, and a headgear
-
Fixed for sure. Especially with headgear and expanders
-
I prefer removables.
-
I also like expanders and functional appliances and combinations of fixed/removable
-
I had and I prefer full metal bands with two elastics and combination headgear
I like the headgear most if the force ends directly in the metal fixed in the mouth
-
Fixed, with headgear.
-
for me headgear and activators :) !!
-
As I have only had fixed braces and elastics/headgear, I suppose from lack of experience with any other type of braces I like the fixed ones.
-
My fave would have to be plain steel braces, the larger the brackets the better!
Does anyone know if the bracesshop.net people have different sizes of bracket options?
-
I prefer removables because I love the lisp you have, while wearing them. And of course headgear.
-
van beek but very very huge
-
van beek verry good
-
my favourite are fixed braces... and I have a special passion for tongue crib ::)
-
Fixed Rapid Pallet Expander on top and removable retainer on bottom with Combination headgear. Biteplate attached to face bow. All of this would make for a wonderful lisp ::)
-
Definitely fixed braces. I love the idea of not being able to take them off. Add in some sort of appliance attached to them that gives me a lisp, and some headgear.
-
Fixed with a facemask! 8)
-
Removable for me, i like the snug feeling against the roof of your mouth and your teeth.
-
My personal choice would be fixed braces with headgear and and big silver bands seriously sexy
-
I am a huge fan of fixed braces with colored ligatures, elastics and my favorite is the head gear. :)
-
Fixed, with headgear.
Yes, fixed headgear would be absolutely amazing : )
-
I like especially loose braces (eg retainers, bionators, activators, etc.). But I also like many other types of braces such as fixed braces, headgear, Facemask etc. Especially with women I see love-less braces. The loose clasps I find simply the best.
Roland
-
Fixed braces are best...
-
Can I add that I now also think tongue cribs are hot as well I love the litho they can give someone
-
fixed with herbst or elastics. the more parts the better for me, i love all the clutter
-
Definitely fixed braces.
-
I love activators and bionatiors, especially the way they affect speech. If headgear is attached, it would be the best.
-
Fixed braces with elastics, although headgear can be a nice addition.
-
As I have only had fixed braces and elastics/headgear, I suppose from lack of experience with any other type of braces I like the fixed ones.
Four years later I have another comment - removable braces on anyone are just ugly to me. Usually they're full of drool and it's just so unappealing.
-
Fixed braces, metal or ceramic
-
Fixed metal braces with elastics and headgear (combi) are my favorite, although I'm also a fan of some removable appliances.
-
Herbst appliances are sexy too
-
fixed braces with wire powerchain/ties, expander, tongue crib, twin block, multiple elastics, combination headgear.
-
Fried braces with elastic a and power chain headgear would be bonus
-
Fixed braces with expander, forsus/herbst, elastic, hadgear...
the more metal, the better is!
-
Fixed with elastics and headgear.
-
Fixed braces have always been my favorite. I finally got mine in 2015. I have them on top and bottom.
-
Traditional fixed type with metal brackets are my favourite.
-
I like fixed metal braces with elastics, headgear, herbst.
-
All types are great.
-
Fixed / Full / Metal
-
I would say as many as can fit in a mouth! I liked fixed, metal ones, but not in their own. Much better if they're accompanied by elastics, to guess crib, headgear...
-
Headgear! Especially a headgear setup that is impossible to hide. The bigger the better.
Herbst and Lip Bumper is amazing as well...
-
I like all types of braces !
-
Fixed braces with headgear or herbst appliance or removable appliances like an activator.
-
Pretty much anything metal and permanent. Fixed braces combined with some sort of fixed appliance.
-
All are great, but headgear is my favorite. I also like how elastics instantly make regular metal braces more dramatic.
-
Metal with power chains <3
-
I prefer and have fixed braces! Would love to have had full bands!
-
I agree with above poster -- can't beat the look of a dark colored powerchain contrasting with white teeth! Really looks good towards the end of treatment when teeth are straight.
-
bands instead of bonded brackets, wire ligatures, headgear, elastics
-
In my opinion most removable braces are more attractive but most people remove them when going in public so I go for fixed metal braces
-
Intensive Headgear! The more embarrassing the better, Via: submissive public wear, bulky parts, mass of metals, bright colored straps, squeaky and clinky parts when talking or chewing and lisp causing :)
-
I like bulky and functional appliances with lots of extras functionality
I’m currently into frankels and activators since they are combined upper and lower in 1
Thus her activator has cool wires on each anterior tooth as well
Lots of expansion screws added also
I like active plates for upper and lower that are connected with herbst, I would add a sever tongue crib for full effect
-
Headgear and anything that makes you lisp alot!
-
Combination headgear - I think since I’ve never seen it in person it’s all the more exotic and interesting.
-
definitely fixed. I also kind of like the idea of a Herbst appliance, seems like an interesting balance of visible/invisible with the patient always knowing it is there. I'd love to know what it feels like!
-
...and of course headgear is kind of a favourite look....but it's almost TOO obvious, for me the Herbst is more interesting in many ways!
-
I would agree, I get more questions about my herbst than I ever did about wearing headgear. There's a certain tension between super visible and unique.
definitely! seems kind of rare to come across it now, maybe there are newer more effective methods?
-
all are so ugly :-)
But I prefer headgear... especily on other and in public... so shafull !
-

But I prefer headgear... especily on other and in public... so shafull !
Public Gear wear is a beautiful site. When I am in public strapped into gear I love know people are thinking "wow that's a heavy Orthodontic application and how embarrassing that must be". I thrive on that especially when I lisp heavily ????
-
Do you wear heavy Orthodontic appliance, or fake one ?
-
i prefer fixed appliances. I like that you cant take them off and mostly cant hide them. So wearing a herbst applance seems being very interesting.
-
Definitely fixed appliances!
-
I would tend to agree, I enjoy the permanent nature of fixed appliances. There's something about the lack of control you have.over your own release from them.
This, I have a Hawley and wear it in public, GF encourages it! I'd prefer fixed though
-
they're both great but there is something about the fixed appliances that is so much more appealing.
-
The removable braces are by far the absolute best. The lisp is very appealing.
-
Do you wear heavy Orthodontic appliance, or fake one ?
Its fake but many wouldnt know unless they have an interest for braces as well
-
Any kind of orthodontia is sexy to me!
-
Fixed metal braces. Love the Straight Edge or Tip Edge bracket systems.
-
Fixed metal braces. Love the Straight Edge or Tip Edge bracket systems.
Are there any appliances or anything else that you would like to see get installed with those braces? Maybe some elastics with a bulky metal herbst, possibly a removable lip bumper on top with bite blocks on bottome molars or how about a massive combination headgear wired in or heavy duty facemask w/heavy forve and 20hrs+ daily wear tine
-
I would actually enjoy lingual braces with appliances and elastics. I want the permanency but also the cluttered feeling. And headgear for at night. If my partner was into it, I would be okay with regular fixed metal braces.
-
fixed metal+herbst+rpe/quad helix
-
I prefer removable because they limit speech much more. Although the best would be a combination of removable with permanent locks!
-
Definately fixed! Because braces + herbst + double expander + tongue crib is amazing when you can't take it off
-
@dominek000 that would be amazing
-
Definateley fixed braces because fixed Metall braces + big double expander + herbst + headgear is amazing and and shamefull when you can not take it off!
-
Definateley fixed braces because fixed Metall braces + big double expander + herbst + headgear is amazing and and shamefull when you can not take it off!
Can't agree more, anything that is fixed in is amazing. The bulkier the better!
-
Prefer fixed braces and Headgear...
-
Fixed braces for sure. As far as appliances go, the more the merrier, and the bigger the better. ;)
-
I prefer fixed braces because they are just always there and you can't escape them for even a couple of minutes.
-
Fixed but removable are sometimes fine.
-
Fixed metal braces, tongue crib and wired in Double headgear would be great as they can’t be removed and you have to live with the embarrassment in public.
-
Fixed, hands down. The bigger and more additions to them, the better.
-
I like both! retainer as well.
every piece of metal on the teeth is beautiful
-
Fixed and metal only, the only removable appliances I fancy are headgears and facemasks
-
Fixed, but bulky, something that limits speech, creates an overwhelming lisp. Although the shluuurp of removable appliances definitely also appeals. Love headgear too! I love the idea of something prominent, noticeable, and impinging. Something that causes an adorable embarrassment. Bondage of the submissive, if you will.
Expanders top/bottom complete with rake/tongue guard, coloured lip bumper, headgear.
Favourite ligature colour has to be 'hot pink'.
-
Definitely removable. Palate must be covered. Activator is the best. The bulkier the better. Expansion screw is also cool.
-
Full bands, and double headgear wired in is fantastic, especially when it's on a gorgeous woman. ;D
-
Full bands would be nice to see, but I think that's just a fantasy these days. I consider myself lucky to have had a girlfriend who had them in the 90's. She wasn't too pleased about it I don't think as it seemed quite unusual. At that point, I don't think I'd seen anyone with bands since the mid 80's. Anyway, she wore them well and used to get hit on all the time.
-
Fixed top and bottom METAL braces with thickest wire and bright colorful neon doubled up powerchains. Also every bracket is laced with thick metal wire to keep everything very tight. At least 8 molar bands if not more. Top and bottom fixed metal expanders to be screwed open twice a day. Top and bottom fixed tongue spurs (not tongue crib). Fixed BULKY herbst appliance. Large VERY PAINFUL closing loops on the top and bottom on each side. Multiloop Edgewise Archwire (MEAW) on every tooth. Combination high-pull and cervical-pull WIRED headgear on the top to be worn 24/7. Fixed reverse-pull headgear metal mask screwed into sides of skull (same concept as a HALO brace). HEAVY reverse-pull elastics will be worn 24/7 and attached to LOWER molar bands to further help move the LOWER jaw forward. Hooks on every bracket including the front teeth. Zig-zag elastics starting from back molar all the way to the front teeth (every tooth included). These zig-zag elastics will pull the teeth together while trapping the tongue inside to constantly feel all that metal. Chapstick should be applied as zig-zag elastics will make it impossible to lick your lips. All of these appliances are to be installed and worn on the first day of bracing.
-
Fundamentally, it has to be fixed, on which removable things can be built. I like the fact that even in your "most natural state", the braces are still attached to you as something you can't remove. I do quite like the "social awkwardness" of the fixed appliance, and not something that can be skilfully removed into a napkin when the opportunity arises.
-
When talking about "embraced" ladies, i definetely prefer fixed braces. No exterior appliances.
I also like "more prominent" braces more than these "camouflage" teeth-color-type brackets (ceramic?)
-
Definitely fixed ones.
-
Definitely fixed braces, a Herbst and expander and a tongue crib. Headgear would also be great. This would be dream treatment for me or have my wife wear it.
-
@jock1 I agree!
-
I prefer metal braces.
-
Fixed braces with appliances.
-
I prefer fixed. The idea of getting out of the orthodontist chair and being at the mercy of the orthodontist is pretty hot. The only time I'd choose removable was if there was a lady who made sure I wore them.
And only fixed for someone else.
-
anything that is shiny, metallic and noticeable. the facebow of a headgear, brackets from fixed braces, hawley retainer. the only think I don't like them to be is discreet.
-
Really obvious "invisible" clear brackets are quite cool, they are so bulky and if someone already has buck teeth it pushes their lips out so much!
-
fixed. removable are too easy to leave out.
forced compliance is effective compliance
-
yeah, fixed braces are my preference, but i quite like the restrictiveness of removable braces, even more when they are combined with some appliances.
-
I'd say fixed braces are more attractive.
-
Fixed braces with power chains and elastics.
-
I am currently back in braces and headgear again for 2 years.
-
I prefer fixed braces. I love the way brackets look.
-
full bands
... and Herbst
... and lip bumpers
... and expanders
but not anything removable, especially headgear to the disappointment of many of you. I've had that before and it's horrible to sleep with.
-
Fixed braces all the way, with power chains and rubber bands. I don't love bright colors: anything simplistic (silver/grey or black) is the way to go. Also palette expander is welcome.
I'm fine with removable headgear but not the braces themselves. I'm usually the more the merrier with ortho, but herbst looks a bit too torturous.
-
I think that all kind of braces are sexy.
Retainer is so cute on woman, I love the lisp and the sound of mouth, and i love the games that you can do with her retainer
Fixed is top, with powerchain and elastics on top and bottom
But all kind of appliance (expander, tongue crib, herbst) are interesting but i never meet a woman with these braces
Headgear, best the neckgear, is my dream.
I know that in adult woman is very difficult to find these kind of appliance... I hope to find a woman that wants to wear this for fun
-
I think they are both attractive, in different ways!
Bulkiness of plastic removable braces like twin block and shiny metal of brackets (or full bands) ;)
-
I like fixed better. The idea of something being unremovable is what's appealing
-
I like any kind of headgear with big shiny Facebows also herbst appliances are sexy and powerchains the more visible stuff is all good either on me or on a beautiful young lady I'm dating
-
Both for me, fixed brackets so it’s always obvious you’re wearing braces. But with removable bulky plastic appliances like a twinblock or bite plate for a that ‘full mouth’ look and nice embarrassing lisp. And obviously headgear would be the icing on the cake. Especially if the required wear time means it’s occasionally necessary to wear in public.
-
https://dereferer.me/?https://www.youtube.com/@songpleng5155/videos
I'm drifting more towards removables.
The Hawley retainers with acrylic-coated labial wires can be a good compromise. Dark acrylic can produce a visual impact not dissimilar from fully banded braces -- as the young lady in Marty's post ("Videos: Removable brace videos" thread) demonstrated until a couple of weeks ago.
Is this just a Thai thing, or are such retainers popular elsewhere?
-
I'd rather like to have removables, because then I can decide when and how long to wear them. Also, they would'nt bother me when I am eating or at work.
-

My wife got Hawleys earlier in the year, both upper and lower have an acrylic coating on the labial wire - in a classic retainer clear pink though https://dereferer.me/?https://imgur.com/a/cBmo8vs
This Thai girl had real braces, then fake (Hawley style) braces, now Hawleys https://dereferer.me/?https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJxfk7xo/

I love mouths full of appliances. My dream situation would be full traditional braces, upper and lower expander with a herbst and twin block and a tongue cage. I love the struggle that comes with heavy orthodontia and I love the thought of slurping the saliva in while lisping all of my words <3<3<3
I would love if you would do that for me
-
There’s something to be said about a mouthful of fixed metal braces that can’t be hidden. Appliances that create a lisp are an extra because just hearing someone speak gives away their situation without even having to see the braces. I remember my initial humiliation when my tongue tamers caused a lisp, but at the same time gave me a thrill.
-
I like teens boys with all forms of hardware. Where do I look for pictures and where would I post some of my own?
-
Fixed metal
-
Fixed braces, especially with powerchains.
-
Definitely fixed ones.....my parents always told me, that fixed braces are better, because I "wouldn't take enough care", if i had removable.
