I wonder what kind of facebow that is, it looks like there are two external arches and one internal one. I've never seen the like before.

I think you'll find it's the type called a cushion loop facebow. I have no idea why it is actually used, although the fictional explanation is usually that it is somehow more comfortable in the corners of the mouth, but also slower.

I'd be intrigued to know what the truth is, even if I may continue to distort of in fiction!

Yeah, but I was more curious about the fact that it seems to be essentially two facebows in one (or maybe it's two facebows and I just can't see the bottom inner arch). Either way, it's not something you see very often.

Maybe that's it. I'd love to see other examples of this rather unusual arrangement.
