Title: Story: There's always a second chance
Post by: Saskia on 05. October 2020, 00:12:28 AM
Hey there,

Just a try.

There's always a second chance.

- Chapter 1 -

As an adult Zoë wanted to experience how braces would suit her. She was curious about the  the look and most of all the reaction of others at her age now.

The feeling wouldn't be that different she thought as she had braces already as a young teenager. The whole package. First a twin block activator, which she hated because the thing causes her a huge lisp. It also had a screw in it to expand her jaws. With the thing in she looked like an English Bulldog she thought. It brought her bottom jaw way forward. However, her parents were very strict in her wearing her appliance. After the twin block the brackets followed. Simple metal brackets. That wasn't so hard to deal with. Lots of teenagers were wearing them in the 90's. The worst part were the elastics and the cervical headgear she had to wear for 18 hours a day!  She was the only one in highschool who should wear headgear. You can imagine Zoë wasn't to keen about that. She thought she looked ridiculous with that bulky thing. Her parents felt sorry for her and made her it only when school was over. Soon enough she only wore it overnights at home. This made her treatment plan even longer, but after 4 years she got her Hawley retainers. Both top and bottom. He also gave her fixed retainers, and her parents were very strict in wearing them as supposed to so the treatment could be finished and paid by their insurance.

As you can imagine Zoë wasn't to keen about her braces back then. All she was interested in was this new guy in her class. Tall, dark, green eyes and he played basketball. She just looked at him. Never tried to make contact wearing her goofy orthodontic appliances. He didn't smile a lot, but he was so handsome and cool.

Somehow though she noticed she became quite interested in braces as an adult. She got the courage to ask her dentist about them. Her dentist mentioned that it would be more like a profylax to get her teeth better aligned. But it wasn't really necessary. Still her dentist mentioned there would always be an orthodontic who'd suggest some kind of treatment like Dr Schmitz for example. He had top rates in fast treatments at adults. That's where she started to do her research.

After Zoë had visited Dr Schmitz for her 2nd appointment she finally made up her mind. In the waiting of Dr Schmitz's office was a really nice looking young man. About her age, and yes he was wearing a mouth full of metal brackets. Zoë could see that he was quite embarrassed as she tried to make a small conversation with him. He tried to hide his mouth be looking down or sideways. Although he had a small lisp Zoë tried to understand him.  She asked him how long it took him to be so brave  to get his tin grin.  He sort of grinned and asked her how badly she needed them with such nice teeth. Zoë didn't know how to react. Could she tell him she just wanted them for 'minor adjustments'? Now he was smiling at her and said that it was something he always wanted to experience.  Zoë started blushing as the man introduced himself as Chris. Although it sounded more like 'Crishhh'. "Nice to meet you I'm Zoë" she said. "I know" Chris responded with a small grin showing off most of his metal brackets. Zoë looked at him again and thought is this the same Chris she had a crush on in highschool?  This was definitely the office she was going to sign up to.

Thank you for starting your story. It is always nice to have another person join our group of writers. It is an interesting start to what looks like a very entertaining story. I eagerly look forward to more of your story.

I would like your permission to add your story to my collection in TheArchive and share it with other people beyond the group here.

Just a note to all the people who are reading the stories here. When you read a story and see something that you like, make a comment. Every writer needs to know that other people are enjoying the work that they have put into writing it. Even if there is something that you don't really care for, it is still nice to know that it has been read.

As a story writer, I can absolutely back up what braceface2015 has said. Currently I have 2.5 stories on the go, one here, the other 1.5 in the club stories section.

For as long as I see no feedback, I have to assume that no one is actually enjoying my stories, which makes it a lot harder to actually WANT to write more.

Some time ago, I started a "Braces murder mystery" story, but gave it up because I lost enthusiasm, due to a lack of feedback

So PLEASE continue to encourage ALL writers. Tell them what you like, and what you don't  like - be quite specific if you like. If you don't want to do it in public, then you can send us a PM.

And if you gave a story idea, but don't  feel able to actually write the story, tgen please post the idea... I've  done that a couple of times now,.. we writers are always looking for ideas and inspiration, please give us  that inspiration!

Yes, I agree with Sparky, we should respond more.
I like the story so far and am waiting for the next part. I read almost all of the stories posted. Some aspects appeal to me more than others.  Obviously some writers are more experienced than others but I would always say give it a try.
I have also started a story in the past and have had a good idea where it was going but lost interest due to lack of feedback.
I have said before that I find removables of most interest and in particular non-essential wearers using them in everyday life so I do find that over-the-top stories of headgear etc dont appeal so much...but I think I am unusual in that.

Incidentally Sparky, I always look forwards to your stories and like the situations that some of your characters find themselves in.
Also there is something about a 'non-essential' wearer finding themselves getting trapped in situations where they have to continue wearing, caught by people that they know perhaps, that appeals.

I wrote a couple of side stories for the braces murder mystery and have a few more that I am still working on. Many times I will put a story aside for a while and come back to later. Sometimes a story will sit for quite a long time and I will get a new idea for it, so it will get added into the story.

Like Sparky said, it helps when we get comments on a story, even if all that is said is that someone read it.

Having said that, I have added the story to TheArchive and am waiting for the next chapter to be posted. You have done a good job writing in a language that is not your usual one.

I totally agree. I know I got lost in one of my stories, but I liked the other and this one has few comments so I don't feel like posting stories anymore. I put too much effort to express what I want to tell in the story, which is difficult since English is not my first language. I'm still writing but I don't feel like posting so I'm selfishly keeping them to myself.

To GarotaFakebr

If you would like to send them to me, I can add them to TheArchive. I am always looking for more stories to add, and I don't have the same restrictions that the moderators do here.

I have enjoyed what you have written here and would like to see what else you have.

Anyone  else that would like to send me stories is also welcome to do it.

Commenting on stories can be a difficult one. As someone who has written for years, often without any commentary positive or negative, I do understand what you mean. However, I've also had a number of people tell me via private message that they enjoy what I write.

It can often be a fine balance between taking the time to write a comment that you enjoyed the story versus handling 15 or 20 comments raving about how good the story is an pushing for more before you'd even had a chance to turn around, usually from people who have never attempted to write a story themselves, or who think they "can't".

I have to admit I'm quite the opposite: I sometimes find too many comments a little oppressive (perhaps because I'm used to it), and I tend to start rushing, which means I lose interest in the story that way because I don't allow it time to develop. Equally, there is nothing as deflating as seeing the "new post" marker next to a story you've enjoyed, hoping for a new part, and finding it to just be half a dozen responses that barely make a paragraph between them.

I guess it's very much a case of each to our own!

Totally agree, each writer works at their own pace. Important thing is that both parties (reader and author) enjoy it!

I totally agree too since I've recently, and for the first time, posted a story with only a few comments, and none after the last chapter. I think i's important to receive such comments, especially when you start publishing. For the moment, it does not encourage me to keep on posting new chapters whereas I've read a lot more.

I've said it before and I am saying it again. I will always appreciate the effort that goes into writing a story. I may not always post a comment, but I do read the stories.

I have most of the stories from here in TheArchive and am working on adding them all. If anyone has a story that they would like to contribute to my collection, they can send it to me. Not every story appeals to me, but I still am grateful that someone has taken the time to write it.

My advice is to write for yourself and then share it with us so that we can enjoy it too, even though we don't always say so.
