Story - I Only Date Nerds

Chapter 1

P A I N
Few things can churn a man's stomach more than the rejection of a woman. The very fear of this tragedy is enough to cripple the wills of titans, and I am no titan. STILL! I persevered. I pushed through, and I overcame my crippling fear. With the fall semester soon coming to an end, cuffing season was right around the corner. The colder weather makes the single life especially hard during those dark and bitter months, and this time, THIS TIME, I was determined to not spend them alone.

Another thing that can cripple the wills and a man/ churn the stomachs of titans and such, though in the same vein, somehow even more demoralizing, is a crush! Yes!

Nothing more jarring than minding your own business only to suddenly be rendered a butterfly-stomached mess just by one particular person being in the same room as you! It's not fair! I'm in college now, and yet just seeing her in sports hall is enough to shut down the part of my brain responsible for producing coherent speech! Not Fair!

But still I will persevere! I will overcome these obstacles and face this fear bravely! I marched into the sports hall, she plays basketball, right? She probably uses the court!

But what time does is she there for practice? Is she even here today? I didn't bother trying to find a schedule, she might not even be here.

...

A MOMENTARY SETBACK! We will regroup, a-

NEVERMIND SHE'S HERE!

I start walking towards her. I'm going to ask her out. I can do this. She's right there. She's reading something on her phone. Almost there. I'm walking right up to her. I'm walking to her. I've walked right past her. I've just walked out of the exit.

I stand for a moment to compose myself. Nothing serious, just almost had a heart attack. OKAY! SECOND TRY!

I walk back into the building, AND SHE'S GONE! GREAT!

I break into a sprint past the lockers. After turning the corner, I can see she's exiting one of the classrooms with her gym bag. I have to sprint to catch up with her. Damn her long legs!

She sees me. I struggle to force my legs to keep walking. Exerting even more energy, I force my right hand to wave as I walk closer. Shit shit shit shit shit shit

"I .. uh-hi! I- iuhh"

"Hey."

"Hi! Sophie! ... Uh"

Her expression hasn't changed. Still neutral. She glances at my mouth for a brief moment before returning to eye contact. Her eyes are drilling right through me. She's really tall.

"Uh... um... W-...would you... wanna get some... coffee?"

...

YES I SAID IT! I GOT IT OUT! THE HARDEST PART IS OVER! IT'S JUST SMOOTH SAILING FORM HERE!

"You have braces?"

The question stuns me.
"Uh... no?"

She looks annoyed.
"Sorry. I only date nerds."

With that she turns to leave.

My wills are crippled, and my stomach is churned. Day ruined.

Nice, very nice. An interesting twist! And a girl who KNOWS what she wants!!

Something tells me that, somehow, our protagonist will end up with braces... just a wild guess :-)

Chapter 2

There comes a time in a man's life where it's perfectly appropriate to sulk around one's own room in despair. In a way, it's a sign of emotional maturity that I'm allowing myself this time to earnestly process my grief. My PAIN. My SORROW.

And for what?

BRACES! She asked if I had braces! They aren't even used anymore! Haven't been for years now! Most folks with crooked teeth get these flimsy clear trays paid for by one of countless benefit programs. You may see some metal used SOME times, but

Hang on...

I pull up the university's main website, scroll past admissions, career opportunities, HERE!
"Disciplinary procedures to follow breach in student conduct:"

Winterville famously doesn't believe in expulsion, so all disciplinary action is taken out in the form of enrollment in a compulsory orthodontic program, the severity of which depending on the frequency of misconduct. NEAT! It sure looks to be DAMN effective too! The university boasts the lowest percentages of academic dishonesty and illegal activity nationwide, and this is probably the reason. You wouldn't wanna be caught with metal in your mouth going to and from classes.

Looking over the disciplinary program, it seems to start off with basic metal brackets and work its way up the more severe the misconduct at the discretion of the orthodontic handler. The website's page gets pretty vague about what they're willing to put in your mouth, but I'm reminded of the section of the admissions form that every student signs that mentions this...

AN IDEA!

All I have to do is break one rule, get sent to the orthodontic department, and BAM! Free Braces!
Then, I'll have another shot at getting to talk with Sophie!

Thinking it over, the braces alone can get a little intense depending on what they decide to add, and they can call you back over to install whatever they want at any time, and you're required to wear it all for as long as they say. I gotta make sure my first-time offense isn't anything too serious. If Sophie wants braces, then I'll get braces!

Time to get myself into trouble!
FOR LOVE!

To make sure I get sent straight to the Ortho department on the first offense, this will need to look premeditated. My target becomes the upcoming History 3 midterm. My grade in the class isn't terrible but could be a lot better! I start by asking a few classmates if they know anyone who has answers from last semester. After getting a few looks, I turn to the internet, searching forums on university computers while signed into my account! It's perfect!

Finally, I print accurate answers and fold the paper into the pocket of my pants. Time to ace this exam!

Results are in, and I've received a confirmation notice to a compulsory installation in the Ortho Sciences building! Success! Caught red handed!

That afternoon I skip over to my compulsory installation with the gusto of a man on a mission! I boldly swing the glass door open and stride to the counter to check in!

A blonde woman about my age hunches behind a counter in a white uniform, a strange metal bar arching out of her mouth and curving to the sides of her cheeks, her lips apart just enough for a glint of metal to shine through, clearly a patient turned employee to reduce her time in oral bondage.

"Can I help you?..."

"Samson Reese!"

Her eyes widen slightly as she clicks a button on her keyboard. The two doors to my right swing open as two taller women lacking any traces of oral hardware briskly rush to my sides, both gently grabbing one of my arms and almost lifting me towards the very doors they'd just emerged from. Right to it then!

I'm brought into a small light blue room with another door to the far side, and what looks like a slanted metal tray protruding from the wall with a door mechanism. The two women place me in the room, briskly leave through the door we'd entered from, and lock it behind them. A voice then speaks over an intercom in the far corner.

"Remove your clothing and place it into the bin."

...huh?

A few seconds pass. Am I not getting braces?

"Remove your clothing and place it into the bin."

I guess I'm getting a uniform myself? I start removing my shirt and pants, noticing picture promts stuck fast to the wall above the bin. I'm supposed to take everything off and place it into the bin, and wait. huh.

I do as instructed and place every article of clothing neatly folded into the metal bin with my cell phone sitting on top.

I'm getting chilly here...

After a few seconds a metal plate slides out from the wall to cover the clothing I'd placed into the bin. I hear a metallic shifting, followed by the lid being drawn back to reveal a new set of clothes left to me.

...

Lifting them from the bin, I find a set of navy and dark green plaid short overalls, the letters "CC" in red stitched onto the left butt pocket, a baby blue collared shirt, and a bright purple diaper that appears WAY too big for me...

This is ortho sciences, right?

"Put on all clothing presented."

This is ortho sciences, right?

"Put on all clothing presented."

Sigh... There comes a time in a man's li-

"Put on all clothing presented."

"FINE! I'M DOING IT! SHEESH!"

Reluctantly, I slide the large purple diaper up to fit. It's, soft? Uncomfortably... roomy. I dawn the light blue collared shirt, and slide into the paid overalls, the ends stopping just above my knees. If there were a mirror in this room, I'd be willing to bet I look like a dork right now.

BUT! Sophie said she only dates nerds! I guess this outfit is pretty nerdy, even if it is a bit much. I will persevere! Triumph will be-

My harrowing internal monologue is interrupted by the two women from before entering from the opposite door to strong arm me out of the cold undergarment stealing room.

An intimidating hallway of chairs greets me as a number of employees in white uniforms glance my way with varied looks. Stare all you want! I've no shame! I do this for lov-

I'm practically shoved into a chair near another occupied by a brunette woman adorned in the exact ensemble I find myself in now. she grips the sides of her plaid overalls with hands bound to the chair by teal velcro straps as a tall woman in a blue uniform works to install some kind of metal cage into the roof of her mouth. The girl in the chair merely looks annoyed, a brave display I'd hope to mirror during my coming installation. The two women begin placing my arms and legs into various teal straps, beginning with a large one across my chest with smaller loops running horizontal, followed by the upper arms. One of them then brings two straps from behind the shoulders of the seat to lay over my own before looping through the spaces on the chest strap, turned back up to velcro to themselves, while the other woman lays a thick padded strap over my thighs before quickly strapping my ankles. They each conclude by picking a hand to secure into a closed loop on either side that tightens to close. At least they're efficient! With that one of them steps away to begin rolling a number of carts covered with metal appliances to behind the chair where I'm unable to see, while the other begins presenting numerous cups of odd smelling liquids, sternly instructing me to drink.

I've made it this far.

I obediently allow her to slowly poor the contents to my mouth, and I swallow them easily after discovering they taste rather sweet! With the final cup emptied, the chair begins to recline back, the straps ensuring I've no way to protest the maneuver. Both women then depart, leaving me to listen to metallic clicks and squeaks of instruments used on the girl to my left, the tall woman spending no effort towards her comfort during the ordeal. At its conclusion, the tall woman announces her completion. This appears to summon one of the other employees in white to begin unstrapping the girl in plaid from her chair. As she stands, I can spot she's now sporting an aggressive looking metal hoop encircling her face, this one with a number of spiked metal trays holding her lips apart that look as though they're meant to stop her from tampering with the appliance. The girl maintains her annoyed look as she follows the employee with one hand hovering around the metal trays, clearly affected by its presence.

As she leaves, I can hear a wheeled stool is rolled over behind the head of my chair. The tall woman reads from a clipboard and introduces herself as Dr. Blanchet.

"Samson, Samson, Samson."

"That's me."

Her eyes are still glued to the clipboard.
"A sense of humor, huh? We've got something for that."

She continues reading as the same woman that escorted the girl in plaid returns to stand behind her at the ready.
"Academic dishonesty, huh? You seem pretty calm for someone who got caught this badly. I'm going to take the liberty of adding a few things here for today."

She takes a pin from her pocket and begins adding check marks across a paper before turning it to the next page and continuing to add more check marks. The woman standing behind her perks up and meekly speaks.

"Um... D-Dr. Ashley, he's a first-time offender..."

"I'm well aware. Administration wants us cracking down on first-timers when they come in for cheating. Makes the message stick."
She leans down to speak directly next to me, taking her eyes off my file for the first time.
"Not to mention, I don't like having repeat offenders on my charts. Grab the headphones. He's going to be here a while, and we're going to make this visit one he'll remember."

She straightens herself to continue making more checks with her pen. Nice try, but I'm not intimidated. It's gonna take more than that to spook me. I'm here for LOVE! Do your worst!

She hands the clipboard to her assistant and begins to force a plastic cheek separator into my mouth before adding a tongue block attached to the inside of it. As the assistant begins gathering the numerous items checked on my file, Dr. Blanchet begins thoroughly cleaning my entire mouth, flossing each tooth before wedging some kind of rubber piece between each tooth. As she concludes this, the assistant returns with one of the items in hand, the rest on numerous carts rolled next to the Doctor. The headphones are placed over my ears and a recorded whispering begins to play. I can't make out what's being said, but occasionally Dr. Blanchet would speak into a microphone pinned to her lapel, instructing me to "bite down", or "open wider". All the while she goes about bringing small metal rings into my mouth. Funny, I thought brackets were standard for metal braces? I've never seen these. I have no idea what she's putting into my mouth, but she isn't taking anything out. A real whopper catches my attention as she brings one of those metal hoops over my face, this one has a large rake of spikes on the inside, three metal rings on either side of the inner hoop.

My steely resolve aside, THAT looks a bit intimidating...

NO! I am here for LOVE! There comes a time in a man's life when his resolv-
Oh Shit I need the bathroom.
I try to speak, to no avail, of course. Wriggling around in the chair, lightly gurgling in an attempt to communicate a universal sensation of a tense bladder, I manage the attention of the assistant. Dr. Blanchet at last addresses me.

"You need the bathroom?"

"Aghhah..."

"Then go."

She continues installing more appliances, even forcing my jaw to accept the metal rings herself out of impatience. I wriggle a bit more. I get it. They made me put on a diaper at the start of this, but really? And for some reason it's getting really hard to hold it.
Dr. Blanchet shoots a look to her assistant, who reluctantly steps to the side of the chair, and begins to press onto my lower stomach with both hands, producing the sound of water hitting carpet, barely audible through the headphones and their constant whispering. I can only lightly grip the sides of my overalls, just as the girl from before did.

NOT FAIR!
Well this is great. Gotta say, I expected some odd things from a university's disciplinary office using orthodontics to curb misconduct, but THIS is a whole other level. Thinking on it, it makes sense why I've never heard anyone talk about this extreme side of the program. Any student that messes up THIS much probably won't be vocal about getting put into diapers while being turned into a metal mouth.

Once the headgear, as she calls it, has been fully cemented in place with a blue light, Dr. Blanchet takes a set of plyers and starts to bend the arms of the facebow outward, taking up more space than before. Her assistant then hands her a tangled mess of navy-blue straps, definitely going to clash with my light hair, and goes about fastening them to the crown of my head and the back of my neck, loudly clamped them to the outer arms of my now locked in headgear. Great.

Dr. Blanchet then grabs the clipboard once again and speaks in a deadpan tone.
"Next up is your standard vision test."

She checks another box.
"Oops looks like you failed. Caroline, bring me a plus 5. Thick frames."

If I wasn't gonna look like a nerd before... Stay strong! Think of Sophie!

The assistant returns and places a set of dark, thick frames glasses onto my face, blurring my vision significantly. I manage a brave grunt of disapproval.

"Your vision will adjust very quickly."

She sends her assistant off once more to prep a goody bag for caring for my new oral hardware, along with more diapers to keep me stocked, sent to my dorm.

"Alright, Samson. It's been very nice getting acquainted with you. You'll want the next time we meet to be outside of this office. If you think your mouth feels full now, just wait until I get you in this chair again. I'll show you just how wrong you can be. Stay out of trouble, and have fun with your permanent lisp. Tah!"  ;)

Chapter 3

Once Dr. Blanchet has left, the assistant in white begins to unstrap me from the chair, saving the hands for last. Having just been given a LOT more than I was expecting, my hands immediately jolt up towards my mouth to begin exploring what all I've been subjected to. Instantly the assistant empathetically grabs my hands and scolds me, as I'm strictly prohibited from tampering with my braces, headgear, and any other compulsory treatment given by the program. I'm handed my goodie bag and led to the front of the building, catching numerous stares as I follow her like a meek puppy, the foreign presence of bulk between my legs producing an embarrassing crinkle as I walk. As we pass the front counter with the girl in headgear, even she can't help but stare, wondering how I managed to get it worse than she did, All the while I can't find any mirrors! I wanna know how I look!

Once to the front doors, the assistant gently pushes me out to the sidewalk before closing the doors behind me, leaving me to be gawked at by students walking to and from classes.

I figured the braces might draw attention to myself whenever I talked or smiled, but SHIT. THIS is a lot! After standing there indecisively for a moment, trying to think of what should do or where I should go, I start to get nervous. My mouth feels so full and tight, and I can't take any of it out. I don't even know how to take off the overalls! My legs start to tremble. I try to keep my hands from touching my headgear, it's so wide and takes up the whole bottom half of my field of vision, and the glasses! I know I asked for this, but

"Hey. Let's go get some coffee."

I practically jump out of the plaid overalls as I whip around to see Sophie standing over me with her gym bag.

"I-uh wh..."

"You wanted to get some coffee? Let's go."
Her eyes are wide as she glances between my headgear and my eyes. She takes my hand to pull me along towards the student union building. As I'm pulled along the sidewalk between the buildings among other students staring at me, I'm still ever aware of the soft crinkles as one leg swings past another.

But

I'm holding her hand! SHE'S HOLDING MY HAND!

I sort of have to skip a bit to keep up with her. Not only is she taller than me, she's walking way faster than last time, but she's holding my hand!!!!

Once we've made it to the union, I'm almost mortified at the realization that a small event has just concluded near this end of the building. Dozens of more students with their eyes glued to my shiny headgear. Sophie pauses only briefly as she scans a path through the small crowd before she resumes pulling me along behind her. At this point I realize it's a good thing Sophie's here with me. I almost feel like I can hide behind her. She wastes no time working her way past students with her gym bag over her shoulder. Towards the other half, a shoe slips in front of me, tripping me only slightly as Sophie's hand holds me up keeping me from hitting the floor! That would've sucked. Eating floor tile with headgear on probably isn't the safest thing. Sophie shoots a glare to the perpetrator before pulling me along the rest of the way. Once at the coffee shop, after receiving my due looks from the customers and staff, Sophie marches us up to the counter to order our coffee. She pulls me to the side of her, leaning down to whisper, "My treat."

I try looking over the menu, but with all the noise, the people, the headgear, I just can't focus. I panic and try to tell her I'll have whatever she's getting, but my mouth feels off. I make the effort to force it out, resulting in a meek whisper.

"Whahever yer gehing."

"Okay!"

She orders two of some kind of espresso. With the order made, she pulls me over to a small table and chairs near a window. She seats herself, inviting me to do the same. Finally, I do the same. The moment my butt hits the chair, I instantly remember the embarrassing ordeal in the Orthodontic chair, when the assistant had forced me to use the now warm diaper pressed against me. EMBARRASSING!

But I made it! I'm here! I'm having coffee with Sophie!

She hasn't taken her eyes off of me since I sat down. I instinctively fiddle with my overalls, wishing I knew why I had lost control of my bladder during the installation. Was it the cups of liquid they insisted I drink?

"So, what's your name?"

The question catches me off guard.
"W-huh?"

"What's your name?"

"Sthamsthun.." OH SHIT I HAVE A LISP

She smirks.
"What?"

"mm... Sshhamsthun..."

"Samson?"

I nod.

"Okay Samson, when did you get your braces?"

Straight to the point then.
"Ten Minusth ago..."

She strangles a laugh.
"You just got them?"

I meekly nod again.

"Man, what'd you do?"

I struggle to explain my perfect plan through lisps and drooling. I quickly discover an acquired tic where I involuntarily suck back saliva with a jolt through my entire body, my shoulders shooting up, and wincing to show my braces, all in one quick slurp as I unconsciously try to keep my drool from escaping my lips. Sophie finds it endearing, and as she realizes I intentionally got into trouble for her, her face quickly grows red. It stays red as our coffee arrives and she continues asking me various questions about how my braces feel, what else they did to me while I was in the chair, until it dawns on her.

"Wait, you haven't seen how you look yet?"

I shake my head.

She reaches her hand across to take mine. Her eyes are drilling into me. I feel like a rabbit being eyed by a starving, feral cat.
"Come on. I'll show you how they look."

I would like to see what you come up with. If it is a spinoff, there shouldn't be any issues with you writing the story using the idea from the original story.

Speaking as a writer myself, having another writer use one of my ideas is a source of pleasure for me. It shows that I have accomplished something and generated a spark of creativity in someone else.

Chapter 4

She reaches into her gym bag to search for a mirror, and I decide to go for the coffee. Normally, I'd be a little more hesitant to embark on such an endeavor so soon after my transformation, but she's already paid for it, and I don't wanna be rude. I raise the cup to my lips, only for the plastic lid to abruptly clang against the middle of my facebow, the thick section of metal sitting well past my lips, now perpetually parted by the egregiously bulky bands covering each of my teeth. The more I think about it, the more I want to see my reflection. Just how bad is it? Sophie can hardly take her eyes off of them looking for the mirror.

I return to the coffee. I open my jaws, extending my bottom lip forward to try and meet the sipping hole ahead of my headgear. I find minor success, only managing a small stream of smooth tasting cold coffee coating the inside of my mouth. The strange sensation of the liquid seeping around my tongue crib is unexpected, and swallowing produces an audible squelch that Sophie can only find endearing. After another jolt through my body as I suck back the excess saliva produced from drinking coffee right after getting my braces, Sophie finally produces a small mirror and places it into my hands with an expectant look.

I shakily flip open the lavender hand mirror, and the awaiting reflection leaves me taken aback.

I'm left in disbelief. The thick framed glasses are the first thing I notice, but my attention is quickly brought lower to my lips held apart by shining metal bands catching every bit of light in the room. The bands, wielding their sharp brackets, looking just as bulky and obstructive as they feel, seem to work together with the thick facebow to force my mouth into an awkward grin, ensuring my braces, MY BRACES, are constantly on full display for everyone around me. Following the arches of the facebow to their end, my eyes are led to the thickly padded straps encircling my head, awkwardly holding down my normally curled hair, the dark navy contrasting with its lighter color.

As if naturally, I part my jaws, revealing the true culprit of my rumored permanent lisp. A metalic row of curved elongated spikes encircle my tongue, seemingly placed farther back into my mouth than what is normal, facilitating an uncomfortable resting point for my poor tongue. Dr. Blanchet might be right. I won't be rid of this lisp anytime soon. My jaws are brought back together involuntarily, as I suck back saliva through bared teeth, that same jolt sleeking through my spine as my shoulders are hunched up with them.

The mirror lowers with my hand, feeling resigned to defeat. I meet Sophie's stare. She's enamored with my reaction to all of this.

Meekly, I try to speak.

"Stho, now what?"

She smirks, eye still glued to my open mouth.
"Let's take a walk."

6 minutes later, we're in an empty room inside of the sports hall. I'm lifted onto a decommissioned desk in the back left corner. As she pulls me by the hips closer to her, a stack of papers to my right falls to the floor, but she pays it no mind. She grabs the straps around the top of the back of my head and pulls my face towards her as she places her tongue into my mouth.

She pays little mind to my facebow, frantically working her lips around it, determined to not let any part of my braces prevent her continued barrage of frenches. In contrast to her hardened, Olympian physique, her lips are soft. They taste like a salty, peppery fruit. She starts off fast and hard, before dialing back the tempo, only to ramp back up, seemingly looking for the right rhythm. Once it's found, she maintains the intensity, using her right hand gripped around my headgear straps to hold me steady. I try not to get overwhelmed with how fast this is progressing, she's getting breathy. After a brief eternity of deafening ecstasy, she pauses, her breath feeling cold against the drool down my chin and around my lips.

One look at my expression and she hesitates. Her expression shifts. With no lights on in the room, it's hard to make out, but something tells me it's guilt. Shit, did I not look happy? Sure, I'm a bit overwhelmed, but

"I- I'm sorry. Are you good?"
She's out of breath. Her tone is a complete shift from a few minutes ago. I suck back saliva, nodding my head.

"Yesh. Yea I'm okay."
Shit, did I kill the mood somehow?

She looks around before picking me up off the desk, placing me on the floor in front of her before dusting off and straightening the sleeves of my shirt. After lightly straightening my ruffled hair, she toys with her own before opening the door to the hallway, letting a bit of light creep in. She turns back to reach for my hand, hesitating a bit before grabbing it.
"Let's uh... I'll walk you to your dorm."

I continue mentally kicking myself as we walk towards the dorm buildings. Her grip on my hand isn't as assertive as before. What did I mess up?

Once she sees we've reached the dorm building, it seemingly dawns on her our little date will soon end, and she works up the nerve to speak up.
"Um... I'm sorry. What was your name again?"
She's wrought with guilt over forgetting my name?

"Oh... Ish Sshamshon-"

"Samson! Right! I'm sorry. I'm sorry I- I kinda jumped the gun there. Uh..."

She's really beating herself up over this. Think this through, you just got braces, and she KISSED you, how's she feeling right now, there's gotta be a way to salvage this.
"Oh, ish okay! I'm all good. Uhh, I'd love to do it again shometime!"
Oh that didn't come out very graceful at all. Granted, with everything going on in my mouth I can't imagine much of what I'll be saying from now on will come out graceful.

But, her expression does lighten up a bit. There's definitely something eating her.
"Okay, how's lunch tomorrow?"

"Sthure! Abtholutly!"

"Sophie!"
Her head twists to face the voice behind me. I turn back myself.
Dr. Blanchet's eyes are glued to me. For some reason, she's not happy to see me.
"Hey, Mom."

Oh, shit.

"Samson! Good to see you out and about with your new hardware. I hope it's proving a memorable experiece."
Dr. Blanchet's eyes attempt to hide a quiet rage, doing a piss poor job of masking how she really feels about seeing me accompanying her daughter. A thought flashes behind the doctor's eyes, and the hint of a smirk itches at the corner of her mouth.
"Good thing I've run into you here! You'll have another appointment with my office tomorrow morning! There are a few things I'll need to add to your treatment, and it's important these appliances be administered as soon as humanly possible."
I can't help but detect a hint of venom in the word, "humanly", the way she says it. I glance at Sophie, and she's completely avoiding eye contact with either of us. Dr. Blanchet speaks up once more.
"I'll see you at home, Sophie."

Sophie quietly replies.
"See ya Mom."

After the good doctor slowly walks towards the administrative offices, Sophie's shoulders drop. She gives a mixed expression of empathy and shamed excitement. After a beat it occurs to me that I'll likely have an interesting appointment tomorrow, not 24 hours after getting my braces installed.

The things a man does for love.

It's great to see another chapter. I did find an error that needs to be corrected. It is chapter 4, not chapter 3.

It is a minor thing and easily corrected. If everyone works together, we all get better at what we are writing. You are not the only one to have put the wrong number on a chapter. If nothing else, it shows people are reading your stories if they are pointing out errors.

Chapter 5

Sophie walks up the steps with me once in the dorm building til we reach my hallway. Finally reaching my room, the box of diapers sent by the disciplinary office to keep me stocked sends a wave of embarrassment as it dawns on me that not only has this been outside my door for the past few hours, but now Sophie will see it too!

I can't help but glance at her. She looks confused for a moment before it clicks. She glances back to me, her face red, then trying to hide a smirk.
"Oh! You really pissed her off."

"Yea... I think sho."

"So, tomorrow. I have a practice in the sports complex, in the indoor court. I want you to come there after your appointment, okay?"

I'd almost forgotten Dr. Blanchet had plans for me in the morning. My mouth already feels so full, I can't imagine what she'd possibly be able to install, and now I'll have to walk across campus right after?

"Uh shure."

She pauses for a moment, stealing glances at the box of diapers still leaning against my door.

"So, what do you like?"

"Like... like what?"

"You know, what do you like? Books, TV?"

"Oh uh, gamesh I guesh? Shome of the older RPGsh."

I can make out gears turning behind her expression, making a mental note.

"Whuabout you?"

"Huh?"

The question stuns her.

"Uh, Urbex!"

"Whash that?"

"Oh it's urban exploration. Abandoned buildings and stuff. Like, the history and architecture. I'll bring you sometime!"

"Oh thash cool!"

...

An awkward silence hangs for a while longers before Sophie finally breaks it.

"Well I'll let you get some rest, um... goodnight!"
She lightly sprints down the hallway towards the stairwell, completely passing the elevator.

I can't tell if I did well there. I think so? She likes abandoned buildings. Okay, that's something to work off of!

I turn to unlock my door, once again met with the massive box of diapers so graciously provided by Dr. Blanchet, whom I'll be seeing in the morning. Reaching down to lift the box, I find a small bag containing my clothes flattened beneath it, and that the box is ridiculously heavy. I struggle to drag it past my doorway, deciding to leave it in just behind the door. At least no one was around to watch me drag it in.

I throw the shirt and overalls into the washer, change out of my unfortunate underwear situation, and succumb to exhaustion.

The next morning, I decide to wear the same outfit forced onto me the previous day to prevent another unwanted change of of clothing. Maybe the appointment will go faster if I can skip the changing part.

I arrive right on time, and the same blonde girl with her headgear is back behind the counter. She looks a little confused to see me at first, then looks to her computer. Her eyes widen, and she presses a button at her desk just like yesterday. This seems to summon two women from behind the same doors, but I've never seen these people before. Guess the two from yesterday are off. Same as usual, they reach my sides and practically carry me to the other room. Thankfully, upon looking me over they decide to skip the changing room and bring me straight to the chair with its many straps. Dr. Blanchet is nowhere in sight, but this doesn't stop the two women from strapping my arms and chest to the chair, strangely neglecting to strap down my legs. Odd.

Once they've concluded strapping my hands, instead of leaving, one readies the same cups of odd tasting liquid from yesterday, and the other brings over what appear to be leg braces.

What?

While the shorter one sternly orders me to drink the multiple cups, the other aggressively hoists each of my legs above the chair, placing the leg braces beneath them. They're composed of sleek black plastic and stretchy fabric, various dials and clamps across their joints, with multiple locks around the ankle and thigh sections. I thought the punishment just involved orthodontics?

The second woman pays no mind to my confusion, skillfully strapping my legs into the apparatuses and adjusting the straps and dials to snug. They sit snug against my thighs, just below the shorts of my overalls, the black plastic clashing glaringly with the skin of my legs. After I finish the last cup, the first woman steps away to begin wheeling over what I assume is a tray with whatever orthodontics Dr. Blanchet has planned for me today. After the second woman is finished locking my legs into their new braces, she hooks a few clamps of the chair on either side to them before leaving with the first. Finished prepping me, they lower the chair, forcing me into a laying position, unable to see what sits on the tray behind me as they both leave.

Leg braces? Will Sophie like these? Are leg braces "nerdy"?

"Samson! I appreciate your punctuality."

Dr. Blanchet wheels over a chair to sit above me with an assistant not far behind her.

"Before we begin I wanted to apologize! I take complete responsibility for not prescribing the appropriate treatment during your first visit. I'll be sure to rectify that mistake today.  :)"

Her assistant quickly wrestles the cheek retractor into my mouth and begins cleaning around my bottom jaw's rear teeth.

"We won't bother with the tongue blocks. His tongue crib handles that for us" She says with a smirk.

She reaches over to one of the trays and lifts a facebow from it. Is she going to replace the current one? The first one was attached to the metal rings around my top teeth, so she'd have to get those off to remove it.
Instead she begins installing the second facebow to the tubes on my bottom jaw. Two of these things?!
Her assistant hands her some small clamps with pieces of wire attached, and Dr. Blanchet goes about using them to lock this second facebow into place. Even though this one sits below my top headgear, I can still make out the second bar, not quite jutting out as far as the top one. She then disengages the headstraps, replacing them with a set designed to hook to both facebows, this one a bright neon green and hot pink instead of navy, no doubt intended to stand out even more.

These straps seem to feel tighter then the previous ones. I can already tell my mouth will be sore after today's visit. She then takes a set of metal frames with sections covered in clear blue plastic, and begins fanangling it into my mouth, where it sits above my top arch, and below the bottom, attaching to my rear teeth around the headgear tubes. Even with the cheek retractor in, I can tell this appliances takes up a majority of the remaining space that had been left over in my mouth. As if I didn't have trouble talking before...

After a few minutes of Dr. Blanchet seemingly fiddling with each bracket, she motions for her assistant to wheel over a large machine that looks to be a lamp with a patterned sticker on it's lens. The assistant seems to stare intently as she potions the lamp right above my face.

"I decided light behavioral modification would run the risk of being ineffective with your case, so I've taken he liberty of adding a heavier dose to your chart. You know I don't tolerate repeat offenders."

With that she pulls a strap from the back of the headrest over my forehead, pulling it tight. The assistant place a familiar set of headphones over my ears, still staring at me as she flicks on the lamp. The machine produces a static hum, and begins flashing seemingly at random intervals. A voice in the headphones instructs me to keep my focus on the center dot of the pattern on the lamp. I begin to grow tired, my eyes having trouble staying open. I feel a set of hands press onto my stomach before the room swirls to black around me.

Super interesting story, I cant wait for the next part!

I have a question though, what are the 'trays' that prevent headgear tampering that get mentioned on the girl in the first part of the story? Is it a real appliance to stop headgear tampering?

Chapter 6

My arms and legs feel like jelly, and my head feels heavier, or is that just my mouth? I can hear my open mouth gurgling out groans as cold hands remove a straps holding my head to the installation chair. Dr. Blanchet coyly mocks my sorry state.

"Very good, Samson. I'll admit, I'm very pleased with how well you've taken to your braces. Lucky for you, your teeth aren't perfect, so you'll actually benefit from having them, but I'll make sure that the progress you make is as slow and controlled as possible. Behave yourself, and you just might learn to enjoy your treatment."

She turns to her assistant who carries an expression of pity.

"Take him up front and take a photo for documentation. He'll make the perfect example. It'll be a stellar deterrent."

With that the good doctor gets up from her chair and exits the installation theater to the hallway to the right, leaving the assistant to unstrap my sorry self from the installation chair.

"Come on, up."

As I attempt to swing my feet to the floor, the leg braces hold them stiff, carrying more of my weight than intended, nearly throwing me from the chair. Luckily I'm caught and helped to my feet, and forced to waddle towards the front counter. I'm distracted from the metallic clacks of my leg braces by the novel sensation in my mouth, how tight and crowded everything in my mouth feels, and strangely, just how much I like it. The soft parts of the insides of my cheeks stuffed with sharp brackets, thin wires and bulky plastic. Everything so tight and locked in place, I'm left helpless to remove any of it. I almost don't need a mirror to know how bad it must look going off of the stares from staff.

Before I know it, the assistant is shuffling me in front of a tarp against a wall near the entrance while the receptionist with the facebow readies a camera atop a tripod.

"Go on, smile."

Still in a daze, it's not hard to give an embarrassing grin with my lips so readily pulled back by the multiple facebows permanently locked into my braces. The flash startles me, prompting an involuntary sucking back of saliva, further showing off the train wreck locked into my poor mouth. Another flash, the receptionist took it upon herself to capture that vulnerable moment. I can feel my cheeks redden. Why am I enjoying this?

The two employees finalize a few clicks at the computer before ushering me out of the clinic. I don't even get to see the pictures?

Once again left standing outside the clinic, this time earlier in the afternoon, the sidewalk is practically bustling with students between classes. They all stare as they walk, a few groups even giggle to themselves. Sophie not here to save me this time, I begin to waddle towards the sports complex towards her practice. Just my luck, the clack of my leg braces against the concrete draws even more attention as I try to hurry away from a line forming near a bus stop. I can make out snickering as I'm shoulder checked by a student, knocking me to the ground. As my butt hits the sidewalk, it's thankfully cushioned, but it feels bulkier than usual, only adding to my embarrassment. Now drawing looks from the entire line, I struggle to stand with my new leg braces, using a railing to pull myself back to my feet. Not wanting to subject myself to a crowd for the length of the bus ride, I decide to waddle through the back alley between the side of the library and the biology building, the leg braces steadily clacking echoes between the two. I won't be sneaking anywhere unnoticed any time soon. I pause briefly to fiddle with the locks, unable to loosen them, but I feel unsteady as I do, having to lean my butt against a nearby wall. A lot of my body still feels like jelly. I'll have to ask Sophie how to take these off.

I forge ahead, the sports complex coming into view, nearly there! By now my mouth is beginning to feel tender and sore, a creeping heat pulsing around my teeth and gums. My tongue rests against the crib of spikes holding it back, further pressing into sore parts of my mouth. This is all so much, it's overwhelming, and something is worrying me.

I reach the entrance and shuffle my way past the slow hiss of the metal doors. I can hear the squeaks of shoes in various indoor courts, drowned out by a steady metallic clack I don't think I'll be used to for a while. I reach the door to where Sophie's practice is, and push the door open. The smell of sweat and laminate wood flooring send my head spinning, the sensation heightened by my now inability to put my lips together, forcing a taste of the air into my mouth. As saliva once again creeps to the edges of my lips, I involuntarily suck back, sharply inhaling the stale gym air. It's intoxicating. I stumble to the bleachers, and can only manage to climb a few levels before falling to my seat near a railing, that bulky sensation against my behind providing ample cushion to the normally uncomfortably hard bleacher seats. Silver linings.

I'm caught up in the misery of it all. The braces, the glasses, the headgear, the tongue crib, all the metal, wires, plastic, everything! It's all so much, and what worries me most,

Then I see her.

She spots me from the far end mid round, seemingly lost in my visage for a few seconds, the ball in her hands. Her team mate calls out to her, snapping her back into reality. She smiles at me and begins darting across the court, her movements fast and aggressive. The way her hair bounces and whips in its ponytail, the soft glow of sweat beading across her face and arms, the dynamic arcing of her body as she shifts around what I can only assume are opponents. She makes speedy passes to teammates who score successful throws, one after another. Every few moments she looks my way and smiles. I reply with shy waving. Her practice mates glance at me and joke to her, seemingly teasing her. I'm unable to make out what they're saying but Sophie smirks their way and gives coy replies, seemingly unphased by the message her clear fascination with me paints.

Their practice ends and Sophie jogs over towards the bleachers, jumping up to the where I'm sat. The hollow plastic of the stands drum as she stomps across them and plops herself next to me with a smile. She huffs, clearly winded from the practice. Her aroma reaches me and leaves my head fuzzy. My legs braces clack as my knees hit each other. Sophie leans in close, saying she hopes her mom wasn't too rough with me, and she's so close, I can feel the heat she's giving off. I feel my cheeks redden, my head gets dizzy.

My mouth feels so full, my legs cold and restricted, between them sogged and bulky. What worries me the most is that I'm starting to like it. She draws close, seemingly not able to help herself, somehow managing to eye my lips past my facebows.

I did this for her.

Good thing she only dates nerds.
