Ch 2
Sean layed there trying to wrap his mind around what he got himself into. Erica holding his hand with enjoyment. He loved how she was always happy. Everything was an adventure for her, and it helped him loosen up and have fun also.
Cathy started to prep his teeth while Nicole masked up and put her gloves on. She grabbed the teeth molds and pulled an appliance off the upper teeth mold... Sean recognized it right away. Expander with clear acrylic over the molars. Very similar to the one he had before.
Nicole: now Sean I'm guessing you already know what this is?
Sean rolls his eyes and nods in agreement
N: figured so haha, you're palates are still narrow so we need to fix that before we align your teeth.
The chair reclines even more as Nicole rolls her chair beside sean's head. Nicole starts to feel around in his mouth checking on Cathys wor prep work. Cathy makes a comment about her not needing to check, she's done this a million times. Nicole gives her a side look. Can see they've worked together for way to long.
N: you know, with Erica here, she can help me. All the hard work is done. You want to start the next patient Cathy?
C: gladly! I might be able to get off work early today and have some wine! Haha he's all yours Erica.
E: really?! I always thought dental work was very interesting but your sure Nicole? (Erica lights up with excitement)
N: I'm sure, Sean will be easier with your help anyways haha
Sean laughs a little as Erica pretends to take the new task very seriously. Nicole inserts the expander for fit while Erica watches closely over her shoulder. The expander clicks in place perfectly. Nicole tries it two more times to make sure.
N: so we have an option,. I can leave this removable but you will have to wear it about every minute of the day anyways for it to work. Could take it out once in a awhile for pictures, or a meeting etc. Or I can fix it in place.
Before Sean can do anything Erica jumps in. "We should fix it in place, I love you Sean but if it's annoying you, you're going to take it out and never put it back in haha"
Nicole looks at Sean for his reaction. Sean let's out a sigh in agreement with Erica. Erica knew him better than he knew himself. Nicole applied the adhesive and clicked the expander in place for the last time. Sean could tell Erica was smiling even though he could only see her eyes.
N: okay, that wasn't to bad. See? Halfway done today.
Sean eyes got a little bigger, halfway? Nicole grabbed the lower teeth mold and removed another appliance. Sea Erica noticed Seans reaction and held his hand to comfort him.
N: Sean your bottom palate isn't where I want it so we're going to expand it just a little bit. We have the same option with this one but whats the point to be able to remove just one?
Sean agreed with another annoyed huff. He felt the bottom expander lock into place. He was impressed with Ericas sneakiness to set all of this up. A part of him was glad she did, he was never going to do it without her. She made him better in a million different ways, even when he was reluctant.
Nicole removed the cheek retractor. Sean runs his tongue over his new appliances... The smooth plastic over his molars and the sharp metal where the key goes. Hes realizing his tongue has no room. Erica watching him closely.
N: okay now for the homework part, Sean open wide, I'm going to show how the key works.
She inserts the key into the top expander, but doesn't turn it. Pulls the key out and hands the key to Erica.
N: okay you try Erica
E: really?! Okay I'll try.
She inserts the key, Nicole tells her to turn it. She does as Sean face winces slightly.
E: that is so cool! What an amazing device! This is more interesting than I expected! Do I do the same to the bottom?
Nicole smiled and nodded. Sean tries to move his tongue out of the way so Erica can turn the key. Another wince shows on sean's face.
N: okay Erica, your the key master, and Sean you're the gate keeper. Haha sorry I love to make that movie reference. But Erica you'll need to turn the top expander once a day and the bottom once every other day. Now Sean, you better let Erica do her job otherwise I'll have Cathy do it and she's not as friendly haha.
Sean smiles and looks at Erica.
E: there's my superman! (She places a hand on each side of his face and leans in for a kiss)
Well that's new haha, but new is good. New is fun. I'll make sure this adventure is fun!
Nicole goes over the do and donts then let's the two of them go until the next appointment.
