In the future when people are genetically engineered to have perfectly straight teeth and there's no need for orthodontics, do you think that "inactive" braces will be worn for fashion's sake as jewellery?

It would be a very happy day if braces ever become a real fashion item, unfortunately braces are getting worse, not better- look at the ridiculous "claer" braces, or the ones that go on the inside of the teeth! It is nice that there are still some real metal mouths out there!
Girls in facemasks and headgear are HOT!

The worst case I've seen of braces getting worse, isn't ceremic braces, it's the small braces... I think they call them mini-brackets... I saw a girl at McDonalds with them not long ago... They're just little dots on the person's teeth, not much wider than the archwire itself :(

 i think i have seen those too, they look like one single hook thing, like if the bracket was cut in half....... but i think if it was easy to get and not a ton of money  im sure it would be the next trend its just like big goofy earrings or toerings and stuff like that ,  i know that people who like piercings   like braces too its just more metal , they love it, metal is in clear ceramic is out !!!

My prediction for 2004.

Tooth art.
The next bod-mod fad.
Coronas and caps in all shapes and colours
to go along nicely with labrets and tongue piercings.

And as a matter of course
for those who still have a healthy, maybe slightly crooked set of teeth
it will be
braces and appliances in all shapes and colours!!!  :P

think of the middle ages or of rennaissance and what fetishes these times developed... We don't appreciate wigs a lot today, do we?

I wasn't thinking that far into the future... Maybe like 10-50 years?

o.k., o.k. then. No doubt that 10 or even 50 years later the fascination will be the same. - Except orthodontists invent other techniques to do their jobs. What a frightening imagination.

Just randomly I looked back at the end of the board, and found this thread from 2004, when the forum was barely a year old.

Some of the predictions are indeed true, with "fashion braces" in some South-East Asian countries being a"thing", and also tooth art, with various things you can stick to your teeth. We perhaps didn't think of TADs, or how widespread cosmetic treatment would become. Impressions are a thing of the past in some places, with a 3D scanner now doing the job.

So here's a thought? What do we realisticaly think might be the case in 2036? I'm sure deep down we'll all like to think that "what goes around, comes around" and we'll be back to full bands and headgear, but what might be "plausible"... might our predictions be as correct as they were then?

I feel like this trend could continue. Grills were a thing so why not other tooth related fashion? Since its less traditional though its a lot less likely fo be mainstream but as time passes its more likely.

Someone else remember the story "The Trend" ? That dealt with pretty much the same question.
