At first I thought this sounded awesome, until reading that it caused permanent damage to his teeth  ???

My question is - how long is too long for braces? I had a friend growing up who for sure had them for at least 6 or 7 years, and I don't think he had any issues afterwards.

I read this years ago  - I feel his pain!

I've had braces for 11 years, but not in a row, split into 3 different treatments.  still have a retainer.  Some of us have more serious issues than others.

My friend told me about some kids she babysat years ago that just stopped going to their orthodontist (don't really remember the reason, maybe parents didn't have the money?). Anyway, their teeth were apparently in pretty bad shape as the braces were falling apart...

On one hand I kinda think it's neat having braces on for a long time, but it sounds like there are so many problems that can arise....sigh.

I looked at this story again a little while ago and was surprised to see it come up again.

From what I remember when I checked, the guy lost the case, because it turned out he had pretty poor dental hygiene before his treatment started, missed lots of appointments, etc, so the suggestion was that he had to bear at least part of the blame.
