New Herbst Appliance!!!!!
« on: 15. February 2018, 20:48:29 PM »
Herbst COMING SOON!!!
I got my molds sent off. It’s technically for sleep apnea, but I get to wear a herbst and enjoy every bit.
It’s also thick occlusal covered in acrylic
The lower herbst attachment has adjustable collars that screw or unscrew to increase lower advancement

I think the idea is to stop your lower jaw falling back when you are asleep; that causes the tongue persistently to fall back and block the airway-which then means you are then persistently waking up. Loss of sleep can casue all sorts of  health problems as well as making you miserable.

I don't think this device will cure sleep apnoea as such; but for as long as it is worn it should help maintain an open airway.

My wife had a similar device for a time but it caused her  TMJ soreness so she stopped using it. It then took  a while for the  TMJ soreness to go away.

It has full occlusal coverage on all bite surfaces top & bottom
The herbst pistons on each side have small collars that can screw up and down to increase the mandible advancement causing my lower jaw to move forward more as needed

Looks quite cool!
Does it really help you with the sleep apnea? Did you have it fitted by your dentist?

so...Is this part of "real" treatment or ordered just to your specs?

Have you, or will you wear it out of the house?

Whats it like to speak with it in?

beware, it my move your bottom teeth if they are not held correctly, I used a device for a while and it messed my bottom teeth up - ended up with braces to correct them - not fun.

I haven’t worn it out of home, just at bedtime. This was ordered by my doctor for holding my airway open by pulling my lower jaw forward and holding the airway bend in a more open flowing position. It is slightly sore each morning but that goes away in 15 min or so. I have a noticeable lisp speaking with it in...mostly on the letter S sounding more like ESH
I do enjoy the smooth plastic feel covering my sharper teeth, make me want full palette coverage like carking has with his blue appliance. I will post more pictures
Just let me know what you want to see
