Title: Modern orthodontics, or old school
Post by: Aaron rubber on 26. September 2018, 05:39:18 AM
If you had the change to get a mouthfull of metal for a week.  Would you choose modern braces and orthodontic appliances, shiny and slimline.  Or older style orthodontics. fully banded teeth . Old bulky headgear ect...

I wore braces for 3.5 years, I had modern braces. But I also had to wear a headgear and tongue crib. I would have preferred full bands.

I would want all the metal I could get! Full bands, expander, tongue crib, combination headgear. All that would feel great and attract a lot of attention.

N.C.

Lucky you! that must have been a fun experience.  Did you have some photos up a while ago, under the same name? I remember seeing some on image shack or something.  They were awesome!

napacaster. That sounds perfect to me. Full bands and bulky appliances would be a dream.

I have had both. Modern is more comfortable but the look of the old is more interesting.

I'd go for modern braces with an expander, herbst appliance and combo headgear!

Definately old-skool forsure. It would be fun and interesting to be put into full bands and heavier bulky appliances with leather strapped headgear and the possibility of getting headgear wired in...

Modern for me (but still complex!)

Brackets (but the thicker ones), a facebow with modern cervical and possible high pull straps. Maybe a tongue crib, a lip bumper and some other small appliances.

Prefer the modern look. i like the elegance of the non-bulky braces, has some attractiveness to it.

I like the modern brackets, personally. To me, I want the mouthful of metal and plastic to be a surprise. I speak and there’s a lisp, but it’s not immediately clear why.

Modem look, but with wire ligatures, upper and lower expanders, elastics and a lip bumper.  And headgear.

@alignme79 That sounds pretty good!

Maybe old school orthodontic treatment. I say this because I know my mouth would be much more full of fixed orthodontia/metal- like expanders (top and bottom) with bite blocks molars so mouth wont shut all the way. Then a large bright colored or metal lipbumper on bottom and of course a MASSIVE headgear to top it all off and with the choice of oldschool orthodontia I feel like I will have a much better chance of having that headgear wired in!

I would absolutely love to endure this ortho gear walking through the doors of highschool soohmore or junior year ; )

For a week? Old school bands, thick wires, elastics and headgear.

For actual treatment, more modern metal brackets although still with the elastics.

For just the week, it does seem a bit of a shame to let the chance of old school treatment pass-by. Especially considering I'd want others to be experiencing it for years!

Definately Old school....bands, big brackets that causes your lips not to close properly, headgear.

For only a week I would also take the old-fashioned ones, just to get the experience.
For a treatment I would prefer the modern ones, but not the slim self-ligating brackets  ;D

Is miss the time when everything was done with removable appliances and headgear. Nowadays it's almost only fixed braces which I don't like.

On myself- as modern and unnoticeable as possible, on other people - some old school gear could be fun to look at :)

Modern brackets and old school headgear. The one benefit to modern orthodontics is that there are much more types of appliances(expander, forsus, herbst...).

If I just had a week with whatever I wanted, I would get as much metal and plastic that could fit in my mouth. Headgears - Cushion Loop, J-Hooks, and Reverse Pull, Two expanders, each with a tongue crib, fully banded braces, bite plates, two lip bumpers, herbst appliance, and elastics everywhere. If there is anything I might be forgetting let me know. lol

May be taking you a little to seriously but it seems that you would need bite blocks or turbos to stop you from constantly wearing down all that glorious metal!

Definitely old style. It's just way more embarrassing and they will feel much larger.

I will give it a try after my dental checkup in two weeks and will consult an orthodontist.
There are some gaps, I want to get closed and still sometimes sore joints, due to pressing and grinding, while sleeping. So I‘m sure I will find somebody who will help me.
I will choose full metal braces and for sure no invisasomething.
Hopefully with some additions as headgear or similar, for at home.
A herbst would ve a dream, but I can‘t imagine that there will be any reason.
I‘ll let my self surprise.

I might be in the minority here, but I prefer modern metal brackets (both normal or Damon). I don't dig the full bands look at all, it looks like...a rapper's grillz lmao

For a week? Old school everything simply for the experience of having it. I think I'd be crazy to pass up experiencing something extreme knowing it's not a long term fixture. For an actual treatment? Modern brackets, and any extra appliances would probably need to allow mostly normal lifestyle, though probably still be fixed in place (aka an expander, not a fixed headgear)
