Interesting reading
« on: 09. March 2023, 14:35:55 PM »
Just found this one. Quite interesting:

https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://www.sanfte-zahnklammern.de/spangen/geraetelistea/geraete_a_eng.html

Also the home page at the bottom, but my German is not good so it needs some guesswork !

I haven't had a chance to look into everything in detail, but the page is headed "institute for unforced braces" - unforced on the sense of removable, not compelled.

The author is particularly against any form of fixed appliance - even bite blocks come into her crossfire, and she uses lots of emotional words - victim, tortured, suffering, etc. For any sort of fixed appliance. Quad helix is described as 'cheap'. Orthodontists who wait for all adult teeth to be in place aren't spoken about with much favour. She speaks of removable appliances having been 'forced out' of teaching by modern suppliers. It seems to be quite 'holistic' in attitude.

That said, as far as I can make out, she isn't a dentist - she's a doctor of natural sciences, seemingly a chemist! I searched her name, and came across a lengthy critique of her work from an actual orthodontist. - I'll post the link later, although it's all in German.

Yes. That was certainly the impression that I got. (No pun intended !)
I suppose that fits in with my preference and interest in removables rather than fixed braces.

Anyway, plenty of devices shown.

For the pictures, certainly, but there is a definite sense of being on a high-horse when it comes to the facts. Do they really start treatment with fixed expanders aged 4 in Germany? As for her suggestion that fixed braces cause speech problems but removable ones don't... It could probably be twice as good or more if it stuck to facts and less to ranting!

The orthodontist's response is here: https://dereferer.me/?https://www-madsen-de.translate.goog/www-sanfte-zahnklammern-de-desinformation-und-hetze-ueber-kieferorthopaedie/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp. This is Google-translated so it's not perfect, but you get the gist. It seems this ortho is no fan of the removable, but he does use Invisalign, and has been practising orthodontics for decades, so at least his "high horsing" comes with a factual background!

Yes, definitely more interesting reading!
I am not at all sure why she is so opinionated in the first place, or what she has to gain.
However, her original article still has enough to interest the removables enthusiasts amongst us, especially as its the concept rather than the effectiveness thats generally of interest.

If she had facts to back up her theories, the article would have more interest. Most of what she is basing her article on is her opinions without anything to back them up.
