If you had the magical power to give someone braces (or even yourself) with only one extra applicance, what would it be?

I LOVE elastics, but if I have to choose one, it's headgear. Nothing beats a braceface in combo headgear.

Elastics a close second.

I think headgear is great, but not enough. When I see someone with headgear I always look what's else in the person's mouth. No braces = bad, fixed braces = better, but removable and speach-restricting appliances are the best.

Yeah, headgear without braces is a waste. Headgear with full metal braces, however, is amazing, and VERY attractive.

But it aren't the different phases of orthodontics half the fun? How about banded back teeth with bonded brackets on the front; cervical headgear at first and then graduating to elastics at the end. Perhaps even a lip bumper for a bit to get the lower teeth clean and smooth...

elastics - definitely – they look wonderful (and kissing someone in elastics is just so yummy...), or a palatal expander for the lisp (mmmm), except I'm hard of hearing so don't usually hear it, cos all 's' sounds are a bit like that!!!

It has to be double interlandi headgear, just seeing two facebows moving up and down together between someones lips.

Given the chance, probably several things in the mouth is best:

Full braces with powerchain ( with complication of course)
Elastics (about 4-6) no more, no less.
Combo Headgear (High-pull+cervical) with single facebow
a pair of herbst
a appliance on the roof of the mouth...(i chose bite plane or expander)
something else i can't remember...

A couple days ago while I was at work, a girl who looked around 20 came up to ask me a question, she had blue powerchains on her braces and the colored elastics, it looked truly amazing.

So I'm going to have to go with elastics

My ideal would be upper biteplate and lower fixed braces with a combination headgear, then upper and lower fixed braces, still with the headgear and then retainers afterwards. I also have minor maloclusions, which this would fix :)

I’ve had almost every type of appliance available stuffed in my mouth at some stage or another.

At the end of the day, nothing beats the look – and feel –of a classic old-fashioned interlandi headgear.  I’ve had the cervical – which is good, but the big one works best.
Lately I have a top Hawley retainer and an interlandi, which is wonderful for adventures, and wonderful for taking out and hiding in the drawer when the fun is over.

Upper and lower braces, Herbst or Forsus because it can't be removed and creates nice little visible bumps under your lips and headgear to be worn 16-20 hours a day.

That would be a nice setup for sure!

To begin with, I'd love to spend some time with an activator. After that, I'd like to get full bands, expanders on both jaws, and a tongue crib tahtd make speaking very hard. I'd also love a Herbst appliance thar causes visible lumps even if my mouth is closed, springs, heavy colourful elastics, lip bumpers and high pull headgear.

I'd go for the palatal expander, seems like such an adjustment to speak again! Also swallowing and eating seems harder, so I imagine it can be quite a shock. Elastics would be the last option for me, I've had them myself and although it looks impressive, I hardly felt them in my mouth. I could still open my mouth as far as I was used to.

I’d choose fixed braces with a large removable twinblock appliance in that translucent pink gum colour for my girlfriend. The plastic blocks would obstruct her tongue causing a significant lisp and I’d love to see the way it forces her lower jaw awkwardly forward and open a few centimetres. I’d enjoy watching her struggle to close her lips over her bracketed teeth and listen as she attempts to relearn how to speak with all the plastic covering the inside of her mouth.
Braces, bare feet, ball gags and bondage!

If I had to choose only one appliance it would be a tongue crib. I've been wearing one as part of my fake braces for nearly six months and it feels fantastic. Of course I like my other appliances too but there is something special about the tongue crib.

On the rare occasions when someone notices that there is something extra behind my braces, it makes an interesting conversation starter.

I would choose full metal brackets on top and bottom, also with expanders and herbst.
Last but not least a combination headgear is obligatory with cervical strap and highpull.
