headgear pictures

The * banned website * site has many pictures but they are all in the same narrow age group.  Do the orthodontist stop using headgear after that age?  Or does everyone just stop wearing their headgear where it can be seen in public?

It really works best when the jaw is still growing, it helps hold the top jaw back and lets the bottom one grow more. That way, the patient has a better chin. When the jaws have stopped growing, it doesn't do much good. These days they generally do surgery to correct the problem if the patient is out of that age range.

I had my headgear when I was 51 and it was used to move my molars back and it worked, even had to move bridged molars on one side.
Not to many adults wear headgear in public let alone have photos taken, Just that adult ego thing.

It does also pull the molars back, but there are much better ways of doing that these days. It could be recommended if other appliances did not work, although I would be a little worried about a real orthodontist who regularly used headgear on adults. I hope everything turned out ok for hgwells!

Headgear is used for two reasons -- To inhibit growth of one jaw while the other continues -- and to distalize (move backward) molars.  Inhibiting growth can only happen while the person is growing and distalization using headgear is very rare because is usually requires constant wear (between 18-24 hours) and not just the 10-12 hours that people are ok with wearing it.

We would be thankful about some more pictures of this adult woman to wear headgear in public. I already tried to find new pictures a while ago, but wasn't successful.

It can be used very successfully when the wisdom teetth have been taken out, as there is a lot of space for movement.
