Title: Finally!
Post by: dodgeez on 27. November 2014, 20:37:59 PM
Hi guys. Thought I'd share my news - after nearly 20 years of having a brace fetish I have finally booked an appointment to get my first ever appliance fitted. I have found an orthodontist who will make me a hawley retainer, non functional, and I am going to get my moulds made tomorrow. Never had anything like this done before so to say I'm nervous and excited is putting it mildly, I just hope after all this time it isn't a huge anticlimax!

I am fairly certain it won't be an anticlimax.
Tell us the story...how did you go about getting the appointment?
And, assuming you have now been...how did it go.

The wait for them to be made is the worst thing...!
The day of fitting....thats incredible.

Yep had the appointment today, and I loved it. Had a nice chat with the very attractive orthodontist and when it came to the impressions I couldn't quite believe I was there. The stuff tasted odd but I loved the feeling of it, just a shame it was over so quickly.

I only have to wait a week but can imagine it'll be the longest week, I cannot wait to be back in the chair to have it fitted. I'll go in to more detail once I have it in.

So, how much choice did you get about what you wanted?

Loads! We talked about all types and I made sure I got what I wanted. Friday can't come quickly enough, I'm so excited. Really looking forward too actually being in the chair, almost as much as getting the retainer itself.

Have you thought what you will say when they ask you if you are going to keep it in when you leave from the fitting session?

I have but decided I won't plan anything, just see what happens on the day.

So.....what news?

So had my fitting yesterday, was in there for about 10 minutes as she fit it and we talked about a few things. I must say I absolutely love it! I finally understand how people get that retainer lisp I like so much. I also really like how it looks, which I wasn't expecting despite loving how they look on women. I am looking forward to going out and talking to people with it in, just need to get used to it first - although don't really want to lose the lisp if I'm honest. And as a bonus they gave me the plaster mould of my teeth so in the future I may try making my own, or getting other things made. I will enjoy the retainer for now though!

Sounds good.
Lots of questions

Did you wear it as you left, as if it was for real?
Best thing is not to get used to it first, just take the plunge and go out and talk when you have to. You might want to take it out but you can't!
Have you tried eating with it? I think it's interesting to try ice cream and then a hot drink.
Do you think you will keep it in and let people think its for real or will you just wear it when you are away from people you know?

Tell us the whole story when you can...how you made the decision to go ahead and ho you found someone to make it. What did you tell them? What was their response.

What I'll do is write the full story in the special club section when I get a moment, might do a build up part then the fitting and after.

To answer your questions though: no I didn't wear it as I left, did put it in as soon as I was out; haven't tried eating with it yet but have tried drinking, didn't have any problems there; and no way will I be wearing it around people I know! I have no need to straighten my teeth so would be weird to suddenly rock up with a retainer. Besides, I like having my secrets... Am looking forward to talking to new people with it in though :)

:) great. Will look forward to the full story.
Not sure where the club section is though.
I see we are both "bronze" members though so I would have thought I would see whatever you can.

Wow.  Congratulations!

How did you do that?  Did you just walk in to the office and ask?  Did you call around?
That takes guts.

Dodgeez!
Congratulations from my side, as well! Maybe I should see that Orthodontic and ask for a treatment myself - that would be great. How come, that you asked for that? What was the reaction? Did he / she understood why you were willing to have braces? I would really like to be in a "treatment" with braces just to remember ages ago. Which then I disliked but know would enjoy ;-) Would you share the orthodontic to whom you went to?

Best regards from Germany, have fun!

Did that make you feel cool? You can stop trolling... I'm being active and discovering threads that are new to me.

I have to agree. Responding to threads that have been quiet for a long time is not the best thing to do.

Commenting on an old story is always appreciated and encouraged, while commenting on old threads is a waste of time. I don't want to discourage you from posting, but please take other members into account when you consider commenting on a thread, especially when it is more than a few months old.

I'd be careful with hot drinks and wearing a retainer.
It could damage it.
