Title: Double feed plates
Post by: Jock1 on 24. July 2019, 14:08:47 PM
Hi, what are double feed plates designed to do. The two metal post seem to hit off the lower plate, is this to move the lower jaw forward? Does this stop the upper and lower teeth form coming together so that you can’t close your mount?

I was thinking of buying them from the Bracesshop and I was wondering what they would be like to wear. Would they affect my speech, and could I close my mouth fully.ect.
Any feed back and anyone’s experience with wearing one would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

It seems like they are meant to push your lower jaw forward, but I don't know for sure. If you've never worn retainers, they will definitely affect your speech for a bit and the metal posts would probably get in the way of your tongue. When you order from bracesshop and get your molds, you can ask for a wax plate so you can position your lower jaw where you want to have it when wearing them. (don't do it too much as your jaw really is being pushed forward. I just placed my lower front teeth in line with my uppers)

Thanks Carking, that’s very helpful! Do you have double feed plates. I have standard Hawley retainers.
