Did you ever see an adult wearing headgear in public and when did it occur (the last time)?
Please do not include orthodontic offices (it's not public, anyway) or what else falsifies the poll's result.
-
I can remember two. One was in a car in the next lane at a traffic signal - a young woman (about 26-28 years old) wearing a high pull. The other was a young woman (about 20-22 years old) at Epcot at Disney World in Florida.
-
I had a classmate in college who looked around 25 at the time that wore her cervical headgear during the day. I did not get to talk to her much though, so I do not know if she had to wear it 24/7 or did not like wearing at night.
-
I seen a little boy probably about 15 wearing a high-pull headgear when I was on vacation. Only got a quick glimpse though
-
A long time ago, maybe about 8 years, i saw woman (maybe about age 30 something) wearing headgear in a shopping mall.
-
I saw a guy wearing one when on vacation in Vienna (Austria) a couple of years ago. Not sure if he actually qualifies as an adult, as he probably wasn't older than 17.
-
At my first ortho appt i saw a woman in her early twenties with headgear
-
My girlfriend (who became my wife) had braces and headgear... at that time I thought I was the only one who had strange feelings about braces (this is pre-internet).
She never knew the effect they had on me, and even now knows nothing of my love of braces.
-
I had seen last on shopping center, young girl ,maybe 10.....
-
Does seeing yourself count? :-D
I've only ever seen one adult in headgear, many, many moons ago. it was past me so fast I barely had time to register it. Woman in her early 20's.
-
I have and still wear mine in public all the time. ;D
-
I have never seen a male or female person with headgear in the true life.
-
never seen. In finland adult rarely wear hg, but i hope to see one in future.
-
I've seen an (maybe 35 years old) male, with Family in the Netherlands.
He was to visit the Bataviawerf Lelystad. It seems he doesn't care about beeing in public with the Headgear.
He wore a Facebow with a red Neckpad and "Smartgear Safety Modules" with white stripes and a "Display" on one Side. I googled them. They're from Switzerland and beeing used to record wear time !!!
it was really fantastic to see this guy an his Headgear...
-
I'd like to see a link to the smartgear thingy.

I'd like to see a link to the smartgear thingy.
I agree

I have seen three adults in headgear in public that I can recall, but all were a long time ago. One was a man who was about 20 in cervical headgear on a college campus, another was a female in a café in highpull headgear with j-hooks, and another was a female in her 30's wearing cervical gear in a department store. All three of these were in the late 1970's/early 1980's.
-
I've only seen an adult wearing headgear in public once. About 10 years ago I saw a woman in her early 20s wearing combination headgear. She just happened to come in to the coffee shop where my girlfriend was working on a Sunday morning. I was surprised because you don't see headgear here all that often, especially on adults.
-
I haven't seen someone my own age or older wearing headgear in public since I was 14 in the 90s. From time to time I would see it on kids, but after that point, never anyone older and never on an adult at any point.
-
Never! Not an usual sight in Spain, unfortunately...
-
i never see it in Hong Kong... :-[
-
Never an adult, no.
-
Never. But I've also never seen **anyone** wear headgear out in public IRL, so...
I feel like if I ever did see someone, it would take everything in me to not stare.
-
I have seen it one time on a little kid at Seattle International Airport. He was wearing high pull headgear. I have also seen a Rigid External Device aka RED Halo appliance in public on a girl most likely in her 30s. Maybe I should go public and make someone's day lol...
-
Would like to do it myself ... need to get over the inhibition :-)
-
I wear my headgear in public when I'm out of town..... love the feeling of people staring! Not many people talk to me about it... usually just look.
-
Same here, wore my HG in public in a supermarket. And had to wait in a long cue before the cashier, next to the entrance.
Have to say i was gathering guts in the car before entering.
I just loved the feeling :)
-
Gosh I want to go public (daytime) to bad, unfortunately I'm extremely scared and feel that I just need someone at me side mainly someone with orthodontic braces/Headgear fet to support me and ease the sheer awkwardness and stares for me. What's the feeling like after you have fulfilled your Public Headgear Appearance??
-
the feeling i have afterwards is more like,,, why did i not dare to do this...
:D
-
^what do you mean by "why did I not dare to do this"? Was it fun? Anyone see you in headgear and or possibly ask/talk about headgear?
-
Old thread, time to bring it back up :)
I saw a couple, he was wearing headgear and a hat to disguise it slightly.
This was probably around 1995. Never seen adult with headgear since.

Im 28 yrs old and ive gone out in public quite a few times wearing my headgear (the hg im wearing in my avatar) and it is both extremely nerve racking and a rush. Its almost dream like or a surreal moment when some people approach me whether intrigued by my headgear and ask about it or just start generalized conversation. To be talking to some stranger, while inside a vast series of straps and pads enveloping my head connecting to metal bars and wires protruding out of my mouth is just a crazy experience...

Do you ever run into people you know? That would be my concern.
-
I live in a small town of 5000 people so everyone knows everybody so wearing my headgear in public became a common thing for me. Actually the kids asked more questions than the adults.
-
Andys, to answer your question...
No I have never ran into anybody I know thank god! "knock on wood" lol I also do most of my geared outings in more rural areas and before noon prodominantly too.
I will never forget my very first time talking with another person in public while strapped into my headgear. It was an experience I will always remember and im sure they will forever remember it too with how massive and extensive my headgear is lol

17yr old male at my school (nearly adult!) wore cervical during the school day and then, years later on a motorcycling holiday in France I saw a teenager (maybe early twenties), waiting to cross the road in hi-pull headgear...

That's impressive! If I ever saw someone like that it would take my every being to not stare in fascination. I wouldn't be able to help it...
-
I wear my cervical headgear often in public and love people staring at me or asking me questions about my gear. If anyone here wants to spend time in public with me in public wearing my headgear - I would love it. I live in the Boston MA area.
Great, I will visit Boston next year around April, lets keep in touch~~~
-
Not since the 80s
-
I only saw an adult "in the wild" once in my life - late 90's. I've seen headgear - that wasn't me or a pal - only once in about 15 years. But I do know that its still widely used - just not outside the privacy of the bedroom. I wonder what changed, in my youth, you wore it all day every day whether you wanted to or not. Now it seems parents are a lot more forgiving.
-
I have worn fm once in Munich few years ago.
