Apologize in advance if this topic was covered somewhere already and I didn't see it. I remember mine.
I remember very clearly. I just started my orthodontics treatment. I get me lower braces put on and my top expander with facemask. The ortho assistant was showing me how to brush with my new additions and how to attach the facemask. She was probably early to mid 20s. She literally said "if you don't brush twice a day your gums will grow over your braces and teeth and we'll have to fix it.". I was a kid and it totally freaked me out. It worked, I brushed religiously but didn't comply with treatment.

Wait what? How dos that even happen or work? Isnt it just a ton of plaque that forms?

I believe that it was never a concern in my treatment as I have large exposed tooth to gum ratio (I honestly think looking back she did it go scare me into good dental hygiene) but it is a real thing I guess, assuming it's not common but one can look it up.

Right!?
Supposedly the build up will cause the tissue to swell and then grow over the braces. I was terrified of this my entire treatment.
