Can dental impressions be made not so breakable?

 I do have a set of very old ones out of white plaster or something like that.  If I were to get new impressions, could I have them made out of something stronger?  Like acrylic or metal?  I would be afraid of them getting broken in transit if I shipped them to braces shop to have a new retainer made for my impressions.  That's if I can get them from my dentist.

Not that I’m aware of, but you could just ask for them to give you two molds from the same cast, that way you have a backup.

You could find a dentist that will do a 3D scan and then use a 3D printer. The plastic is not unbreakable but it is really strong. Hope this helps.

You can get resin specifically for this purpose, called "Rhino Rock". not sure how much it costs though.

£36 for 1.6 kilos of it from DB labs - that should be plenty to make a few mistakes with!  ;D
