Braces for you or braces for others?
« on: 09. February 2015, 03:40:22 AM »
It seems to me that here are two types of braces enthusiast:
Those who like to wear braces or retainers them themselves and those who like to see others wearing them.
Which are you?
Can you analyse any of your feelings about this?
How do they make you feel and why?

Well I generally love seeing braces on others (especially girls). I myself have fixed braces and to be honest I hate wearing them because I have them since more than four years already. Yet I am really looking forward to wearing retainers and experiencing how a removable plate feels in my mouth. In general I prefer removable braces over fixed ones.

both - but I prefer others as opposed to me.  Call it a 40/60 split between me and others.

Braces can make women very sexy.
This may sound strange to people outside this site but to me a mouth without braces is no sexier than an elbow.

I love pictures like this:
https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://nullrefer.com/?https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://matthew-sonn.tumblr.com/image/109474490373
Braces are stigmatized as juvenile and ugly. The woman in the picture is a model and knows these meanings and choose to reject them.  She knows having her picture taken is an act of defiance.  She not hiding anything, they are metal with orange bands. She is showing them off.  Without braces this picture would be nothing.

Dembones on the form here has done some very nice studio work too, with his Braces are Beautiful series.

A picture of a women in braces who confidently looks right at the camera fills me with joy.  Very sexy.

I do a lot of media work so whenever I use someone else's likeness, even a link,  I ask myself "how would I feel if was my picture on the screen?".  In this case
Honestly, I'd be shy.  Not only because I think braces look better on woman or I'm not the kind of guy who likes having his picture taken.  It is mainly because I feel uncomfortable to lose my some of my anonymity and wonder where picture might wind up.

This is me in my fake braces.
https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://nullrefer.com/?https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://imgur.com/DsVkYZK

I wish I had the same guts as the women in the picture I linked to.  I'm just not ready to show my whole face online.

I love wearing my fake braces. They feel amazing and awkward at the same time. I'm addicted to that sensation.

23BRT,

No disrespect intended, but genuine braces could bring some real improvements to your teeth.Have you ever thought of getting them?

Hey, no offense taken.
Yeah, I think about the possibility a lot. Probably everyday since I was eight years old.  I'd love to get them.
You can't see from the picture but I've got an overbite too, my top teeth overlap my bottom by about 3/4.
Otherwise I don't have any catastrophic bite problems.

Funny thing is, of all the misgivings of how I look the alignment of teeth dose not bother me.
I one of reasons got the fakes is to get a better idea of what the real thing might be like.

My dentist has never referred me to an orthodontist, so I've never dared visit one on my own.
But I hope to change that soon.

The problem is I haven't figured out what I would say at appointment with one.

I had braces as an adult a few years ago. I referred myself to an orthodontist who appeared to have a good reputation. I just sent them an email with a picture of my teeth and asked if they could help improve them. They emailed me back offering various times and dates to visit them and I took them up on my offer. I was really nervous when I went for my appointment and taking this step was probably the hardest part of the whole process. However, the staff were very friendly, as was the orthodontist. She examined my teeth, took photos and explained my braces options. She then sent me off with a member of her staff who showed me the various types of braces on models of teeth and explained the cost and likely duration of treatment. After a few weeks to consider my options ( which they stressed included not having any treatment), I went for a second appointment where they took an X ray and impressions of my teeth and discussed the treatment option I had chosen. These two appointments cost under £100. There was no pressure on me to go ahead with any treatment and I was treated with the utmost care and respect. After I had decided to go ahead, they wrote to my general dentist with a report on my teeth and the treatment I had chosen.
My treatment lasted about 18 months and was much easier than I expected. I am very pleased with the outcome and glad I did it.

Both... I've liked seeing braces on girls / women for as long as I can remember - even dating a couple with them. I got braces as an adult - mostly out of curiosity about what they really felt like, but I had some problems to fix too. Now I'm in for "retainers forever"

Hey, 23BRT, I think you should really go for it now.
I'm not criticising your teeth in any way but you have enough misalignment to qualify for work and I don't think an ortho is going to turn down the work. I am sure there are a lot of people who have near perfect teeth that still want them a little better.
The good thing, when you are into braces is that the ones which are more obvious tend to be the cheaper ones as they think you will pay more for something more descreet.....we know better!!

How often  have you worn your fakes when out and about?
How often have you spoken to people with them in?

Oh, I've worn them out in public more times than I can remember.
I'll admit that the lighting in the picture makes them looks kind of scary.  In person they are not conspicuous.
In public, I take out the bumpers though, they feel good for a little while but they start to be annoying quickly.

It took some practice but they hardly effect my speech, just enough to keep me on my toes.

I went out on a two week bike tour once and wore them all day everyday.  I met and talked to lots of interesting people along the way.

Just one more reason to get the real thing

I get a real kick wearing my retainer out in public, but prefer seeing women with them. I've also found I really like spotting women wearing invisalign or clear braces, no idea why but it definitely floats my boat.

23BRT How about a pic of the braces themselves?
Have you ever had a comment from anyone when they have spotted them?

I like both.  I think I prefer on myself but I also like seeing them on others.

It's been a fascination since I was a young kid (can't pinpoint exact age but before 6).

No clue why.  I don't remember anything that would have caused it at all.

Definitely braces on others.

My own experience was not the best (don't ask me to elaborate) which put me off, but I liked looking at others - a lot!

I think braces on women are awesome.  I also like wearing them myself, I have had them or almost three years. I am lucky that I have to wear a headgear and on Oct. 26 I will also have a tongue crib installed.  So I love being a metalmouth and seeing them on women. :D ;D

Definitely more on women than on myself. I've bonded fixed metal braces to myself and wore them for a couple of days with elastics. It was fun but somehow frustrating, I'm not sure exactly how to explain it.
A beautiful girl with braces is magical.

Both! But realistically, it has to be someone else because my teeth, despite an underbite, don't require orthodontic treatment at the moment.

Both, please!

But I had braces as a little kid and never again after that and don't need them. So the "braces for me" is a pure fantasy, and I've never really tried to analyze if this is something I really, truly want for myself or if it is just a burning curiosity to experience what its like. IF I ever do, it will be by taking advantage of the braces shop here (wow! and its legit, too! I was so shocked, some of those pieces look amazing and they all look so real!) and that still won't be the same thing because I will be in control of what I wear and when. There will be no element of "do this or else" or "endure this unpleasant thing for your own good" to it. And of course it won't hurt, and I will be able to eat what I want, and... not really the same thing as actually going through treatment. No ortho's office experience... you get what I mean.

Love braces on others. I'm in my 30s and I don't see many people my age with braces. It's not totally unheard of, but its pretty rare. Actually, its more common to see people a decade or two older than I am with braces, because they're more established in life and have disposable income to finally get their teeth straightened (or fulfill a fantasy, who knows!). I really like reading and looking at blogs and pictures of people who document their jaw surgeries, because as an adult, that is usually the longest and most complex treatment someone would go through. Serious bite issues can't really be fixed without surgery as adults, so most braces treatments are more cosmetic and are quick and simple. No headgears, no expanders or active appliances... I guess there are rare instances, but I never get to see them :(

I see more adult women wearing braces than men, by far. I'm a woman and I prefer men, so that is a bummer for me. I guess women are more vain, and maybe even more disciplined? I don't know. My husband wore braces when I met him and that's basically why I was interested in him at first. So I can say with certainty that YES, I DEFINITELY am into braces on others! That one is not just a fantasy!

I would have to say more on myself than others. Not only do I love the feeling of headgear straps enclosing my head but also a large complicated facebow exceeding out from my face and being able to see it even if I am looking strait forward. Also ,when I turn my head up or down/side to side, the squeaky and clanking noises the gear makes is so unnatural and sensational. With all that being said, I would absolutely love to be admired and or envied for having to wear such an odd gear contraption that is extremely unhidable and bulky to where other braces lovers would kill to be geared up and lisping like me  ;D.   I so badly want to take a pic and show you all what I have the pleasure of being strapped into all day every day  ;D

I've never has braces myself, and I'm sure many would say I'd change my mind if I did, but I love imagining myself in braces (the bigger lisp they give me, the better!).

Anyway, I know I love them on others, too; specially men.

I think both - I've not had them yet, but got interested when my wife got them on.  I never really paid attention to braces before that, but now enjoy seeing her and others in braces.  I'm set to get them in a month or two and maybe after having them on, will change my mind!

I love seeing braces on women. The braces themselves make the women more cute and when the treatment is done they end up with a nicely shaped face. I also would love to wear them even though I think I would look awful with them but the permanent condition of having braces is just very arousing.
